All the weapons I own are tools, nothing more nothing less, they exist to do a job.
Some a prettier than others, but then, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I'm 60 and prefer the old S&Ws which I have a few of. Most of my rifles are wood and steel although I own ARs and some plastic shotguns mainly for waterfowl hunting.
I've never owned any plastic pistols and have only shot one Glock which was okay but didn't make me want to go out and buy one either.
I don't fault the younger guys for wanting plastic as that's what they've been brought up on. Besides that leaves more steel and wood guns for me.

So to recap....would it be safe to say that the average member is a elderly white dude with lots of free time and an expensive hobby?
Cool.

I am 50 and an equal opportunity gun owner. I own stainless guns, blued guns, plastic stocked guns, wood stocked guns, tupperware gun (as in 1). I am helping keep S/W, Ruger going in these tough economic times. I like the black guns, stainless pistols, semi auto pistols. Sorry, I have no old S/W revolvers. Hmm- maybe I should focus on the wheelgun for awhile.

Talk about being old-fashioned!! I've been packing a single-action since I was legally old enough to purchase my own handgun almost forty-five years ago. I must be a real late bloomer because I bought my first DA revolver about thirty years ago and my first semi-auto handgun about twenty years ago.
I don't shoot Tupperware if I can at all help it. The only plastic gun I own is a Ruger LCP that tucks neatly in my right front vest pocket.
Sure, I'm old. I'm 64 and I'm darn proud of it. I've had some hard miles and have earned every gray hair on my head. I love old pump shotguns, lever-action rifles, double-barreled shotguns, and classic wheelguns with actions that are butter-smooth.
I also love owning a couple good dogs and ridin' a solid trail-wise horse up in the mountains.
I carry a pocket watch most of the time. I drive a truck with a CB on the dash and a lever-action rifle in the back. I pack an old bone-handled Case trapper knife in the pocket of my Wranglers.
I'm not real computer savy. Heck! I have enough trouble figuring my own TV out! But, I don't care. My idea of a wild time is sittin' by the fire on a winter's evening having a hot game of Cribbage with a good friend.
Old guys are easy to entertain.

72 next month. I was brought up with guns as long as I can remember. Dad always owned guns and taught me. Also all my many relatives had guns and all hunted. I was brought up in the country and sometimes shot in the back yard. When I was in my 20s I rented a room to one of the biggest collectors I knew. He was a lot older than me and worked where I did but his family lived a hundred miles away. "Duke" collected smiths mainly but a lot of other guns too. I would have to say he was my mentor. Every time he went home he came back with a satchel of more guns to discuss. He knew many of the old gun writers, collectors and dealers. His BIL was arnold capone owner of king gun works and duke had guns that were featuered in some dun magazines etc. It was a good education for me.

46 years old.
started in the 1980s with Ruger stainless revolvers and blue steel autos....
Airborne Infantry training got me into "tactical" weapons....
serving in Iraq got me tired of "tactical" weapons...
Back where I began, with 4 revolvers and no plastic.

I have a new Ruger 10-22 with a plastic stock & a P-95 9MM. That's about it, the rest are blued & Walnut. Waiting for the rain to quit so I can go shooting. I turn 82 next June.

34, grew up down here in the South so guns and mudd have always been in my blood. Got my first .22LR semi (Winchester Model 190) when I was 7. It was handed down from my great grandfather. Believe it or not, i still have it and I still plink with it from time. Its mostly used for hunting racoons at my camp.
I have come to realize though......The older I get, the better I was.

54' today, woo hoo!
Celebrated by building me a little reloading bench
out in the garage for my new Lee Classic Cast breech
lock press I picked up yesterday, lots of other gear to
get before I get started.
Nothing but revolvers for me any more, all in 38/357*
Assorted K & J frames' and a few nice rugers.
.. My first six guns back in 1960'

Turned 54 last month. Most of my filters are broken so sugar coating stuff is a real chore for me.
I kind of like pistols for carry and revolvers at the range or in the woods. But that's not an absolute. As a lefty I find semi-autos to be somewhat more ambidextrous.

Let see I remember listening to the radio till we got a B&W TV, things were simpler back then heck as a kid I could walk down the road carrying a rifle and nobody thought twice about it so I guess Im 64 and like steel and plastic especial WWll weapons guess that why I got a C&R but now they are getting harder to get reasonably priced. German firearm my favorite can't beat a K98 Germans know how to make things just too complicated.

I'm 66 and prefer traditional firearms. Do have one Glock 19 because it was my duty sidearm at one time. All but one of my long guns are blue steel and wood. Have one AR just cuz I can and one Colt 1911 which every self-respecting gun guy should have at least one of. All my S&W revolvers are 1981 or older and my favorite is my 4 inch 66-1 which was my all-time best duty handgun for a bunch of years.

Remember when the word 'plastic' was synonymous with the words "going to break real soon"?? These days a better description is "Tough as ****" Even the plastic they use in mere PACKAGING now is darn nigh indestructible.

I'm 71. And I've been into guns for about 60 of those years. I remember my Dad carrying me on his shoulders to the duck blind because I was too little to wade the river channel. I still have the little single shot .410 he got for me to hunt pheasants and the .22 Marlin (a dreaded semi-automatic) to hunt rabbits. I don't hunt anymore but still enjoy shooting and particularly handguns.

Soon to be 52 and feel 42. (sometimes)
I think it's like a lot of things in life. Younger people tend to like newer technology and then stay with it throughout their lives. Not all people, but a majority I'd estimate. So while there are older gentlemen spouting the greatness of the older pistols and rifles there are people who enjoy the newer (plastic if I must say it) guns.
When I started my gun enjoyment a few years ago I started off with plastic ones because thats what was in the showcase and the salesguy pulled out and told me was all the rage. Berettas, 92FS and PX4 Storm and a M&P40. I've since found my true love, older S&W revolvers and 1st, 2nd, 3rd gen semis.
Don't be offended by people extolling the greatness of their favs, just remember thats why gun manufacturers make so many different models and styles. No one gun fits everyone's tastes and likes.

I thoroughly enjoy all the experience, anecdotes and laughs on this tread and was told to keep it going....so let me share.
I'm 52 and got into firearms late, been around some air rifles in my youth and made a living briefly spearfishing in the Caribbean and now my spear guns only get wet when I visit the Philippines.
I bought my first gun as a HD piece and never expected to be so taken with the sport and these wonderfully engineered things.I am now the proud owner of a 1979 27-2 with a 5 inch barrel and have my eyes on a 66 or 686 3 inch....

Double Nickel. I like all revolvers and 1911s. Have a couple other nice semiautos that are collectible. I have one black polymer gun, Hk USPc 45. Dislike strike fired autos.

I have softened a bit in my old age and Florida Humidity; I now own a stainless steel gun or two. Plastic is not here to stayjust like that damned television people talk about.
An indoor range that I sometimes use charges by the hour, so before I go I load up some magazines on my time so I can shoot them on the ranges time.
I was laying out loaded41 l magazines the other day when some young guy said; Wow! Where did you get all of the mags?
I told him that I only buy one about every three or four years but I keep them all. They begin to accumulate after about 40-50 years.
Just turned 79.

Me: 66, and the "youngest" firearm I own is 5 yrs old, the next is 23 years old, and the others are 30+, 57, 59, 82, and 99 yrs old respectively. Old is good, literally in my opinion.

I'm 65 and remember many of my generation thought the 9mm couldn't cut it stopping power wise. Most plastic guns were 9mm so maybe where the prejudice came from? With todays premium ammunition probably lack of power is not an issue. I carry a model 60 my wife a model 66 with 2.5 inch barrel and round grips. I truly am most comfortable shooting a K or L frame and range results show it. Our son at 24 has a Ruger 1911 in 9mm and a Walther PK380. I did once buy a 1st Gen Glock 17 because they were police turn ins with new barrels and only $275.

I have three guns, all revolvers.
A 442, 60-15 and a Ruger flattop 44 SPL in SS.
Best,

LOL ..Zombie thread indeed some of those folks on "page one" are ....... really old now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Me: just turned 64 a couple of weeks ago........as a Scorpio...... I'm active for my age
Wood and steel for me....... OK did buy a M&P this year but who could pass up a nib gun for $300.... OK OK got a M&P .22 compact and 15-22..... just too much fun with the boys (17 & 20).
But I do like my Smith Revolvers and 3rd Gen Autos...... Beretta 92s and Sigs............... give me a nice CZ FS/mannlicher rifle in rim or centerfire for an afterdinner walk in "Penn's Woods"!
