Default JB Weld on Aluminum?????

My lawn mower transaxel has a small hole where the belt was rubbing. There is little or no pressure and I was wondering if JB Weld or some other product would patch it and save me taring the hole thing apart and having it welded?

I've used it on aluminum with great results, just make sure all mating parts are clean and degreased; I use acetone,

I would think it would providing you clean (degrease) and sand the area well. I used it on a outboard engine water jacket once and it held. (pin hole water leak under pressure)

If you get real clean&dry I would think work. Without seeing the hole is it possible to drill it and put a self tapping screw in it?

JB Weld would be perfect for that repair...just clean and degrease first.

I once epoxied several pieces back into the bottom of a aluminum motorcycle crankcase that shattered while bouncing over a big rock. I rode it for a year and it was still holding and not leaking a drop when I traded it off. The secret is to roughen any smooth surfaces with sandpaper, then clean and degrease until you're sure it's clean, and then clean it again.

Default Motorcycle side case

Howdy,
Good results on a motorcycle side cover/transmission case.
It was everything that you would think that would keep it from working. Heat, oil, vibration. It worked great.
Good luck
Mike

Thanks for all who responded. I'll give it a try.....I thought about a self tapping screw but where it is, would be hard to get to.. and I'd be worried about getting into the main gear

I used it on my diesel VW jetta oil pan that had a crack, it is cast aluminum. Tried the regular stuff first but the oil would contaminate the epoxie before it had a chance to set. Used the 4 minute quick stuff and nearly 100k miles later it has worked like a charm. I have used JB Weld on aluminum parts for 35+ years with great success. No tool box or emergency kit should be without the stuff!

I used it to fix a crack in a Chevelle automatic transmission. I think it was an aluminum housing.

aahhh good ol JB weld. That is one product that works unlike many others advertised. I also used it on an aluminum oil pan and it worked great.

I'm a certified welder. I don't have much use for JB Weld. But, in some cases, it's an acceptable repair and makes sense. This sounds like one of those cases. I even have a welding book that advocates using such products in certain circumstances.

I think it just might have to be added to the:

If it moves and shouldn't= Duct Tape
If it doesn't move and should =WD 40
If it needs to be glued=JB Weld
