I finally got my second article published in American Handgunner. It isn't exactly a Smith & Wesson article, but it is closely related. Pun is intended. I have another article in the pile on Roy H's desk. It takes a while to work one's way into the magazine since the regular writers keep it pretty well filled up. "His Editorship" has been extreamly helpfull, especially in guiding the development of my photography skills. I'll not be quitting my day job anytime soon.

Congratulations on being published! I read it and thought it was both fun and an informative article. I think no matter how well you do something there will always be someone saying there is still room for improvement, but don’t let that sound like you didn’t do well the first time. I love the picture of little Mama Ida in what I presume was her Sunday best. I can only hope that the future is as generous with us when they write articles about us and our treasures.

Congratulations! That is a great story. Lol, you are right about wishing our grandparents had the foresight... I wish mine had bought a dozen or so of those $25 M1911A1s from the DCM in the 1950s and 60s.

Congratulations! You were lucky to connect with Roy H, who is a class act, and a nice guy, despite which, it ain't easy to get your foot in the door with a major mag like AH. Good luck on future proposals.

Coincidentally, just this afternoon, while cleaning up and reorganizing my office, I found a copy of a magazine, Arizona Wildlife Views, the AZ Game & Fish Department's monthly, with one of my first published articles, about which I'd quite forgotten (by which I mean, I hadn't forgotten the article itself, originally published elsewhere, but that Wildlife Views had published it at all). Lesson to be learned, perhaps, is to somehow file and organize your archival copies of published stuff, for future reference, or just to pass along to anyone who may care to see it later. I specifically advise against my adopted technique, which has been hurling everything into piles and boxes, not just in no particular order, but without any order whatsoever. Other writers here can perhaps suggest some system.

I have been putting each article on a CD, along with the pictures and the appropriate captions.
A few years ago when I was writing pretty regularily for a Corvette magazine, I didn't really do this and had a bunch of articles on a hard drive that crashed. I THINK I have a copy of all the magazines, but don't ask me to lay hands on all of them.

Congrats on a well written and very interesting article. Excellent photography too and the pic of Mama Ida added greatly. Hope your writing career continues to grow.

epj, very nice choice. Decades ago I drove a buddy's 62 w/300HP. I thought that car had no body lean in corners.

All the solid axle 'Vettes rode like a lumber wagon, especially compared to the second generation cars like the one pictured in the background. However, with all their faults, they were/are an absolute BLAST to drive. Especially with the FI engine.
