Default I have to get this off my chest

I can't confess it just anywhere. I'm new here and realize most of you don't know me...but here goes.

I love my husband, but I do not like his gun.

It's a Taurus. While I don't mind sleeping in the same room with my husband, I hate that my S&W BG .380 has to bunk in the same nightstand with his Taurus P100 .40

I can't bring myself to tell him.

Will we need counseling over this?

I suggest your husband seek counseling ASAP...this is the type of thing that if not addressed could lead to a downward spiral in your marriage.

Your husband needs to talk to Dr Handejector to get his mind right.

I have the perfect scenario for you. At my house, things that have always been kept in the same place for years all of a sudden are not there anymore. My lovely Wife decides they would be MUCH better off someplace else, so she moves said items, forgetting of course to advise me of same. She might just as well have thrown them away, cause now I'll never find it.
I will not at this point mention what color my lovely Wife's hair is. I always thought that could be the answer, but sometimes I think it's one of those thing they teach you at the Wife's Union Meetings. (you are unionized, right? I thought so). So.....Maybe find a "new" storage place for hubbys Taurus, and replace it with an S&W. Trust me, he'll thank you for it.
Good to have you here, by the way.
Jim

More guns in the family will bring more happiness.

Dr. Andy suggests buying more handguns- it doesn't really matter what brand- just more of whatever floats your boat- a dozen is a good number to strive for... Try new things and be happy.

Get a nightstand for each side of the bed- the family that's armed together, sleeps better.

I suggest you work up slowly. Don't disrespect his choice of quality. Go slow. Buy him a Colt- & when he gets used to change, go all the way to a SMITH!

Dr. Andy...someone mentioned the children earlier. Our teenaged daughters prefer long guns.

More handguns sounds wise to me. And my own nightstand simply means...more room for more guns.

I knew I could get help here.

I was a LEO/Police Tactical Firearms Range Master for a long time. I always said, "Give me a chance to train a teenage girl on the use of a Home Defense Shotgun for about 30 minutes and she will take out Chuck Norris every time." So, with that in mind here is some more cheap advice; Trade in the Taurus on a Remington 870 12 ga. for your daughter and get her signed up in a class. Tell your husband that the Local Gun Shop just 'had' to have a trade-in to make the deal. Then show him the S&W Model 4006 that 'had his name on it' that you spotted as you were walking out the door. This is a 'win win' situation. Your daughter becomes an asset in the home defense situation, your husband is better armed, your S&W is happy (probably a little smug too) and by purchasing a longer game barrel for the Rem. 870 all of you can enjoy clay pigeon shooting or actually go hunting in the field for upland game birds. ........man-o-man..........Dr. Phil couldn't have solved this any better! :-) ............ It's always ok for a woman to buy her man a gun!

Or should I say "better gun".

Pharmer, that has to be one of the best lines of this forum.

Ma'am, you know how to make friends around here. A woman who wants her man to have S&Ws, has torque wrench in her user ID, lives in Texas and can shoot too. Yeehaw!

Welcome aboard.
We're actually very tolerant here(), so he can keep the Taurus till he achieves enlightenment.
You can even keep him. (but I'd watch him closely)
Bring him here.
All of our collective wisdom added together equals at least one sound(almost) mind.
The exposure might do him some good. If he loves a Taurus, it certainly can't hurt him.

Welcome to the forum captorquewrench!

It takes a very brave and patient woman to be able to handle having a partner with such a terrible disability! Especially when he doesn't even know how bad his condition is!

Bring him around here, and we may be able to help him work through these troubling times! Admitting to himself that he has a problem is always the first step.

Again welcome to the forum. You have a great sense of humor!

I once dated a girl that had a Glock. It turns out she was a lot like that Glock and had no class at all. It didn't work out.

I showed my wife a bright stainless finish Colt 1911. Her response was, "That's a pretty gun!! That was a quick buy. " How about a M586 6" barrel or a M27 with a 4" barrel? He might see that as a manly gun rather than another sub-grade Taurus on the S&W Forum.

Offer a positive alternative and he will see the "light"!

captorquewrench

I see intervention here, he obviously needs to be headed in the right direction, he has been adrift way too long.

Rein him in. Get him the help that he so desperately needs, it's for everyone's good.

Jeez, I hate to see this happen!

BTW- Welcome to the Forum....you're a very brave and courageous woman.

I realize his problem is more serious than I thought at first. He also drives a Taurus.

Glad to feel welcome here. And thanks for your help with this.

First, hello the camp from OK and glad to have you as a Forum member. You'll find a wealth of information, camaraderie and encouragement here, as the previous posts so kindly illustrate. Take him shopping for his "own" Smith and see how he feels being taken by his wife to a gun shop. My wife took up sporting clays several years ago and took me around to the local gun stores.... it was incredibly thrilling for me! I even got to buy a new shotgun for myself!

THAT I would have liked to see...

I have to say I see this in an entirely different light. Put aside the relative faults & merits of the Taurus. Just for the moment.

The man is obviously concerned about the welfare of his family, hence the desire for home protection. That he bought a Taurus merely incicates that he is also concerned for the family's financial well being as well.

He has set aside his desire for a nice Smith & Wesson and made the fiscally responsible choice of a less desirable but quite servicable home defense tool.

Your hubby is obviously a mensch. A man among men. He should be applauded for putting the needs of his family ahead of his own "wants."

I think you should buy the guy a ginormous steak, serve with his favorite trimmin's, and then demonstrate to him your appreciation in whatever manner you deem appropriate.

Or... you could just present him with a nice pre-lock 686.

It could always be worse. It could be a Glock.

Uh-Oh!
Sounds like 'Bovine Fixation Disorder'.
When he talks, do you see black circles appear on the lawn?

It's the adolescent male in him coming out. He learned that the word "taurus" means "bull" in Latin languages. When he sees your lovely face, his testeronical (new word) urges present themselves and he seeks fulfillment. When you're not around, his Taurus is a fourth class substitute. Buy him a Smith and move that up to second place. He'll also pester you less. This reasoning also applies to cars with names such as Charger, Escalade, Impaler (sorry, I meant Impala), Magnum, etc. As for myself, I have dozens of S&Ws, greatly reducing the need to pester my wife. I'm happy, she's happy and my Collection grows! Also, I have found that my S&Ws never say "no."

Buy yourself a pistol you know he would like. Let him shoot it, but tell him it is yours. The second time he shoots it he will put it in his bag like it was his, and tell you he decided it is his.

At least this is what the wife pulled when I taught her how to shoot my (or was mine) S&W 686. She told me it is HER gun, but later bought me a 629 Classic 44 mag "to replace it". I never have complained since, and a few years later she bought me a 625, and then a 610.

Boy do I LOVE my wife!

Now, now - you knew he had this problem when you married him - and with all things in marriage, you must accept him for what/how he is and live with his small deficentcies. Encourage him to be more open to new ideas and perhaps (to please you) he could at least shoot a new brand once at a range to see if it works for him. He may come around yet - stranger things have happened. Above all - don't give up on him!
