The weather is pretty nice, as it is tempered by proximity to the ocean.
The people there are as nice as anywhere else, maybe a little
nicer.
There is a national forest just to the south of New Bern for hunting and shooting.
LOTS of places to fish.
LOTS of Marines and former Marines in the area. Always good folks to know!
Things may have changed quite a bit in 40+ years, but the
basic societal structure takes an awful lot to modify it. Would be a good place to live, almost perfect.

Pretty part of the country. Good seafood close by. Lots of fast movers, bombing ranges, MOAs and Restricted Areas. Good sailing close by.

Pepsi Cola was invented there, you can visit the drugstore. I like walking around downtown, pretty place. Gun show this weekend (march 26 & 27)

Crystal Coast Area, Emerald Isle & Morehead City, USMC bases nearby. Good seafood. Summer tourism brings a little traffic. Have family in Maysville outside of Jacksonville (LeJeune). Housing very reasonable, especially now.

I lived there for a few years. Really nice place. Lots of history.
Then there was Susan the Fey, as pretty as only a redhead can be and so seldom are..... Your pardon, my mind tends to wander.
Tis a might warm in summer. If you move there, be sure to get a boat.

Pretty country, although I've only traveled through it. I do know that the locals pronounce it "NEWburn", almost as if the name only had one syllable, with the accent on "new".

A lot of fond memories freezing my butt off on the sportsmans pier or iron steamer when the spots were running. Nice place but hurricanes oh the hurricanes. Did I mention its hot in the summer. Doeboy
