Default Grip Adapters

They seem to have come and gone and are coming right back into fashion again. But there only seems to be the one company making them, Tyler who is in backorder heck right now. But even when they were in fashion they were the only game in town if you wanted a nice one. Pachmayr, Mershon, and I’m not sure if S&W were making them or if they were badged for them were all rubber or plastic. Tyler is the only old brand that I can find that made one in metal. Now if you go to auction sites K frame models are going for crazy prices and parts sites are selling out of even the plastic / rubber models. So what gives? I would think this would be a lucrative market or at least a still in business big name like Pachmayr would start thumping them out again. Is it just too much of a nitch market item? I love them and I’m not the only one stalking J frame Tylers right now…

Crazy as hell. There's a #3 up for auction now with 2 days left. Current bid is $76. I've used the things for 45 yrs. I remember when everybody replaced wood with rubber. I always used wood targets on SB Smith's. Tylers went on RB Smiths. Up until about 6-8 yrs ago all the gun shops had a grip box that I would peruse and find used Tylers. Now all the shops have a P.C. and auction everything. I'm set for now, but the tabs eventually break on them.

I haven’t heard anyone come back with a “they took my money and never delivered” horror story but they are just so back logged and have a spotty record of letting you know just how late your order is going to be. But I guess… Good things come to those that wait?

Suppose if you will: Tyler is now barely a "cottage industry". Maybe 2 or 3 buyers are taking all current popular models of the adapters. Those buyers are putting them "for auction" making a nice profit if you've got the time. I saw something similar happen with factory Colt grips that "used to be available" from Numrich.

"Back in the day" I always bought a T-Grip when I bought a S&W with magna grips. Especially j-frames, as a j-frame just isn't complete without one, and to me, there is no better aftermarket grip option for j-frames than the magnas/t-grip combo. Not so much with K-frames because I was always on the hunt for target grips for them, although I bought a few of that model, too. I have a box for a K-frame model, complete with the paper towel or napkin wrapping they sent them out with, marked $6.00. I think that one is from the late '70s. If I'm not mistaken, it seems like I remember them being as cheap as $3.95. Now, I hoard the t-grips. I will never let one go with a revolver. I started taking them off when I make the pictures, because someone always says, "I'll give you your price if you include the t-grip," even if I specify, "t-grip not included."

Well, how ever you cut the cake, it's just bad business pratice, and I for one am tired of it. Most folks don't cash your check, or run your card until they are ready to ship. I just filed a complaint with the Attorney General's office about Tyler and couldn't resist a note tacked to it chatising them for not being on top of a business operating like that in the Capital City where they are located.

I've been using Tyler Ts for about 42 years. I order about ten at a time and when I get low, order ten more. I order several different kinds and that works for me.

Tyler Ts seem to be in fashion again after several years of nobody wanting them, except for OGs like me.

I talked to the head of Pachmayr at this year's SHOT Show. I explained how hard it its to get a Tyler T-Grip. I explained what they're going for on Ebay and Gunbroker. I explained that revolvers have made a real comeback the last few years (you would think he would know that).

I explained that I really believed his company's grip adaptors would sell very well.

He said he still had a bunch of them and that they could tool up to make them again very easily.

But he said that if people really wanted them, he would have heard the requests via his website's "message" system (sort of like an email).

I told him that I doubt the majority of people even realize they could do such a thing.

So if you want them, let's "message" Pachmayr/Lyman.

Here's the link:

Pachmayr your primary source for quality handgun grips and recoil pads
