The squirrel has been driving Bailey (my 2 year old Chocolate Labrador) crazy all morning. I let her out a couple of times to chase him away and keep her from crying to go out. Finally I got what I thought was a good idea. I thought I’d get the slingshot out and scare him. (I can't hit him, I'm not that good with a slingshot) I opened the window in the office to shoot him and Bailey tried to jump out. I caught her by her rear legs and dragged her back in. She was going! You would think she would be scared of nearly falling 2 stories, but all she was interested in was getting the squirrel. Apparently she thinks she is SUPERLABRADOR! That got my heart started!
Has you dog ever pulled a bonehead move like this?

I can't recall a similar stunt right off the bat, but this doesn't surprise me at all. Dogs tend to be rather singularly focused, for example on the squirrel. They probably don't even notice that the ground is two stories below the window!

There was a incident in world war two. A russian pilot shot down a german pilot. The german pilot crash landed, got out okay and now was legging it into some possible growth where he could hide and get away from some russian ground troops that were arriveing and starting to search for him. The russian pilot buzzed the area and seen what was happening. The russian landed his plane nearby, (that had to be a near impossible feat), got out, ran down the german on foot and choked him to death! Now THAT is dedication!

A friend of mine had a little kitten named Ditz (go figure) who jumped out a second story window. She retrieved the unharmed kitty and brought her back upstairs. That goofy cat made a beeline for the same window!

I had a little dog that was half rat terrier and half something else that must have been the same size with longer hair, his name was Ratso. One day when my wife,son and I were out for a walk he spotted a squirrel and took off after it. The squirrel marked a tree and when it jumped back down to the ground Ratso thought that it was after him. He took off running toward us and was looking back to see if the squirrel was after him and he ran into a fence post and knocked himself out. He got up in a few seconds and was alright. We still laugh about that from time to time.

There's a nice roadside park several miles north of Bend, Oregon. It's situated on the rim rock overlooking the Crooked River canyon. The park has a stone wall about three feet tall along the edge and a 1000+ drop straight down on the other side. Last time I was there, there were warning signs all around about playing fetch with your dog in the park. Very focused dogs apparently made the plunge regularly.

My female Pit Bull (approx. 50 pounds) has torn ligaments in both back knees jumping off the porch to get after a coyote. She sees one in the fields (20 acres) and gets after it barking wildly. She has always jumped first and asked questions later. My Pit Bull/Doberman mix (approx. 125 pounds) is more mellow. He plans his "attack" and then executes it silently. The dog actually thinks. Neither have been successful catching a coyote. The coyotes don't stick around for coffee

Cute pup, Stonecove! Just look at those expressive eyes!

My Yellow Lab would jump off the pier at our lake cottage in an attempt to catch the ducks or geese he saw swimming over a 1/4 mile away!

Big, goofy dog was loyal to a fault, though. Gone for 8 years now and I still miss him every day.

Zoom, thats too funny! Pretty much what she looked like going through the window. I don'k know how I had the reflexes to catch her.
Ferrill, I think my dog is related to the Russian! She once ran off an 8 embankment wall chasing a rabbit, and recently raced into a flooded creek full of ice flows to get after a goose that was honking at us. She's pretty intense, but a great dog overall. Actually quite a sweetheart and my best buddy.

I had a golden retriever that went out the second story window one time. But that was because a local bithch was in heat. Heck when I was young I might have jumped too

I learned the lesson years ago to NEVER allow a dog to ride in the bed of the pick-up. My Saint Nick (yes, his name was Nick) was riding across town and saw another dog being walked along a sidewalk when he made his famous leap to go greet the sidewalkers. Nick was very friendly with other dogs and meant no one any harm, but you can imagine the surprise of having a 180-pound St. Bernard leap out of a truck and come charging up to you!

I felt very badly about the whole thing. The truck was going maybe 10-15 MPH. Luckily, Nick was just fine - no injuries, and those on the sidewalk no worse for wear too. My Dad had assured me Nick would never jump from the truck, but I should have known better.

That's a cute lab you have there, but now you know - you're going to have to keep an eye on her!

My friend and I were hunting in Arkansas this year with two dogs, his and mine, we would only send one dog at a time, on one retrieve his dog went for a cripple, came back with a catfish.

I had a very exuberant Brittany Spaniel, that when you let it out of the dog pen, it would run wildly for about 5-10 minutes before slowing down. I mean he looked like killer bees were after him! One day I turned him out, and he ran straight into a very large white oak tree, and knocked himself out cold. As soon as he regained conciousness, he jumped up and continued running just like nothing ever happened. He was quite a bird dog, although his fetching came to a halt one day when we'd shot a bird, and he somehow got the bird and an electric fence both in his mouth at the same time. He once peed on my father's leg while my father was cleaning some quail. Now that I think about it, I remember the dog peeing on an electric fence as well. That dog was a trip.
