Default Price of ammo IS going up..

Was at the LGS today.. they got in a trailer load of PMC ammo..( Range Ammo) 11 mixed caliber pallets to be exact..
First shipment of the year with the new wholsale pricing..

I'm gonna guess that the retail will go up 60 cents to a 1.00 a box depending on the caliber.. and yes .357 is still hard to get..

I'm jus sayin'

I am guessing you were around during the Carter economic BOOM. Same thing starting to happen now. If you want something, buy it now, it will cost more next week.

It isn't that the ammo (or anything else) costs more, your dollars buy less. I think I just read the real inflation rate is now over 8% annually. A buck on a 20 dollar box of ammo isn't but 5%.

The world and everything in it is is somehow directly or indirectly related to the price of oil/gas. Either it's used in production or used for delivering the item.

I reload and it now costs me more in gas to drive to the range then the cost of the ammo I shoot at the range getting 20+ mpg.

Remember your history, folks. After the Carter years came the Reagan years.

Bought a house in January 1982. It had sat empty for two years and the reduced price reflected that fact. Problem was, interest was 14.5% FHA!!! Anyway, we bought the place and ate dirt from paper plates for a year. The rates dropped way down in 1983 (something like 6-5/8%) so we refinanced. Replaced the 30 year note with a 15 year note and took $100 off the monthly payment.

Be patient. In 3-4 years, it'll get better. I promise ...

I bought 400 rounds of .45acp and 200 rounds of .40S&W this week but paid less than I do normally. Ammo shortages are often due to location than nationwide. Usually I order in large quanities but caught this stuff on sale at a gun store and was not about to pass it up.

As to inflation, I am paying more for everything these days but I am making more than I ever made before. My first house (1966) cost me $114 a month and I laid awake at night worrying about how I would be able to make it. My last house note was $1500 a month (2002) and I never worried about it.

Pay the increase prices and be glad you can. If you think times are rough, go to a nice restaurant and see how long you have to wait in line. There is money for the things people want to have, do or eat moreso than ever before. People spend more eating out now than ever.

Another thing: I heard yesterday on the news that people are buying more economical vehicles because they cannot afford the current fuel prices. One lady said she was spending $70 a month more for fuel and not able to afford it so she was going to buy another car that gets better fuel mileage. Now if I figure right, a new car will cost more than $70 a month, will have higher insurance rates and overall will likely cost her $500 a month more to save herself $70 a month.

Money is out there for the things we want.

This is one of the reasons I finally decided to start getting into casting my own bullets. I really only use two or three different bullets for my .38's and .357's and also for the .41 Magnum. Don't get me wrong, I really like what I buy from Montana Bullet Works, but with shipping I'm paying 20 bucks for 100 .357's and over $30 for 100 .41 caliber bullets. So far I have picked up about 60 pounds of WW's in my travels (getting harder to find), two Lee electric furnaces, one new and one used for $50 between them, and the other extras and I ordered my mould today. I figure I will have about $200 into it to start, but once I start casting, I will get my money back from bullets in a month in bullets. I plan on having several thousand of the little buggers by the end of summer.

I feel like I am being punished by my fellow man right now. We just bought a house two years ago and I know about that comment about eating dirt off paper plates. We both make good money, have no children to support, and while we aren’t doing bad… It’s a bit comical to me that we have to struggle for new toys, occasionally over extend ourselves, or just end up passing on most spending. So if we are both making good money and have no rugrat crumb snatchers eating us out of house and home then I shudder to think how some people are making it. The only way I can support my shooting hobby still at this point is to scavenge and buy cheap brass, cast my own, and reload, reload, reload. I refuse for my shooting hobby to become a rich man only sport. But I must admit that buying my recent gun show purchase was just about sticking a knife in my own side until next payday. The things we do to ourselves.

I was talking to a buddy of mine yesterday about ammo prices and he and I were discussing the cost increases. Part of the problem is with gas prices going up, its a double whammy. Like everything else ammo has to get shipped to the store on a truck, and if the company's tack on fuel surchages and shipping increases, the cost of that box of ammo is going to go up. At the same time, all the extra money people pay for their gas might have been enough to buy a box of ammo on payday but now he can't. It's a circle. Believe me I know about how tough it is to make it right now. I'm out of work and don't know when I will be going back, and my wife decided to stay home and watch the kid. Part of the problem is, I can't do everything like changing diapers with only one good arm, so she really can't go out and work right now. Luckily both our cars are paid for and other than a couple credit cards and the mortgage it is just the essentials. We have some money put away and we have been doing more to cut back on expenses, and when it warms up we plan on a garden, and then either raising chickens or my preference, rabbits since I am really not a fan of eggs, and I have dealt with rabbits before. I plan on fishing alot this summer, even if I have to use a stick with a line because I can't use a reel. I have a few things I want to do on the side, but I have to see what I can do while out of work.
The people I feel the most for right now are those on a fixed income, the elderly who get a pension and a Social security check and have to make due with the little they have.

The great thing about ammunition is that if the powder was manufactured correctly, and the assembled ammunition is stored correctly, it will last indefinitely.

Reloading is about the best way to go, especially with most ammunition companies going up around seven to ten percent, as I have been told.

One of my distributers called me yesterday, trying to sell me more ammo. Golden Sabers have already gone up $1 per box of 20 since January, with another price increase soon.

Tighten up your tin foil hat & stock up now if you can. The next Obama election will be sending the under-gunned and under-stocked to the stores again. Remember when you couldn't find a box of anything?

It would cost about $270 more to have that ammo shipped from, say, Remington in Lonoke, AR to Orlando than it would have 12/31/10. And that's just shipping for the final product. Yep, everything's going up.

As we have mentioned, the price of oil/fuel has certainly increased the costs for everything, but in addition the prices of metal (copper/brass, lead) are much higher also. So the combination is a double whammy.

IMHO, many many shooters are going to be pushed out of the sport. If one does not reload, how can anyone afford to go to the range and shoot say 45 Auto at $25 a box of 50? Other than 22 LR that's a mighty expensive 10 minutes or so of fun.

Even reloading I limit what I bring to the range and definitely shoot my revolvers more now than even a 9mm semi auto. At least with a revolver it slows down the who shooting process by not using speed clips or moon clips.

Except that mortgages will be back at 14% instead if 5% like they are today. That will drive the last spike through the heart of this "recovery." Joe

--- Shoot lotsa .22LR and reload 45ACP .38/357 9mm. Steel .223 is cheap. Ammo around here is still trending down in price but I guess that's going to end soon.

Of late there have been more references in the media to inflation as a way of decreasing the country's debt problem. Sure, If the dollar falls to half its value, then our collective debt becomes half what it was, while we little people pay twice as much for what we need. On the other hand, we could cut spending. Now, with what you know about the good people we send to Washington, which technique would you bet on? I bet on inflation. I shall buy guns and ammo now, and I will try to get something invested with those folks who are going to be charging the 14% interest.
