S&W Etherium revolver formally announced!
After months of development, S&W has finally officially announced that the Etherium revolver will be on dealer's shelves soon. "We are proud to have developed the lightest revolver ever made." said a Smith & Wesson spokesperson today.
Here are some shots taken a few months ago of a prototype. This revolver is actually lighter than air in cold weather!
Pricing has not yet been determined.

Looks like they are going to need to bring the lanyard loop back.

I would've guessed upsadasium was the material. It's an element I learned about from Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoons in the sixties.

I think we're looking at images created with extremely high shutter speeds of revolvers in "flight" dropped onto soft landings, softer than the several day's overdue mowing of Paladin85020's lawn.

I heard S&W is coming out with a model 500 next with this technology. I believe they intend to call it "The Loose Cannon".

Nice guess, but that's not the way I did it. And I didn't photoshop any IL - that gun doesn't have one!
I'll entertain other guesses as to the way it was done...!

Well, since I do a little Photoshop I'm going to hazard a guess or two . . .
Since the angle of the gun seems to be exactly the same (to my old eyes, anyway) in both pix, I'm guessing it was pasted in over top of the other images, being photographed on a neutral background, since It's very difficult to 'shop out a background that cleanly right up to the edge of the gun.
Second guess, it was suspended by a line (later taken out of the image) and photographed in front of the images judiciously placed behind it.
But then, I know just enough about Photoshop to be dangerous. I do know I've seen some extraordinary work done with digital manipulation of images. Good job, however it was done.

Your second guess was pretty close. In actuality, I suspended the gun from a tripod's horizontal arm above it, using a length of dental floss, running the floss through the muzzle in front, and the rear of the cylinder in the back. The second shot was easy. For the first shot, I started the 12-second timer on the camera and then placed my hands under the gun as the picture was shot.
Then in Photoshop, I used the "spot healing brush" to retouch the strands of dental floss out of the picture. This tool does a remarkable job of erasing something and replacing it with whatever surrounds it in the picture. The erased area blends right in.
What resulted was the appearance of a floating gun. I thought about how to do it for several days, and then went ahead to experiment with the technique. You can't believe everything you see in photographs these days!

I'm sincerely disappointed.
I thought it was lighter than air.

Put a pin back in the barrel/frame and I might consider it.
