Two week's ago I ended up in the E/R with a fever and a intestinal blockage.
Tuesday I ended up in the Hospital with a blood clot in my leg.I now have to give myself four shots a day of a very expensive blood thinner and also take cumadin another blood thinner for at least nine month's.

Sorry to hear you are not feeling/doing well. Hope things begin to improve for you. To answer your question though, yes it could be worse so I hope you remain positive and hang in there.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

If'n you are sitting, for any length of time, with anything in your back pockets, stop it. Do you have your wallet in there on the side that's hurting? Joe

When the snow melts up there and you get to feeling better try swimming or just some exercises in the water. Help me out tremendously. Join a health club with a pool.

I have been where you are. Especialy with blood clots in the leg. It should have killed me. I retired january 2,000 with the idea of long haul truck driveing to see the country on someone elses dime and get paid for it. Not to be. A drunk T-boned me. I bumped my knee and didnt go to a doctor. I didnt pay attendion to a big bump on my knee. I was deer hunting by myself and ran out of air. Barely made it back to my truck, alabied it to high elevation, didnt go to doctor. Next day, home alone in the house I was breathing hard, not getting air and started to pass out. No pain at all, but thought I was dieing. I couldnt even get to the phone for help. Finaly I got a thread of air and worked at reviveing. A old GF called and asked me how I was, I am fine. She pressed and asked me about three times in a row with me saying I was okay. Finaly she said the lord told her to call me! I said, dunno, I might just had a heart attack! She immediately called a common friend that lived near me to haul me to emergency. Next almost two weeks was in ICU, they told me I beat death. (Pulmanary embolism). There went my chance at a job I had retired to try for. I couldnt return to my 35 year job either!
As it turned out I went through about 4 years of bad times, but never went back to work. While I was recouperateing my dad 2,500 miles away came down with alzheimers and I had to go home and take care of him. I really belive some of this stuff is blessings in disguise. As it turned out I would have had to quit anyway to take care of dad.
You were lucky. It could have killed you had you not caught it in time. That clott would go one of three places. A polmanary embolism to the lungs like it did me, the heart for a clean fast kill, or the very worst senerio, a clott to your brain----- could be a vegtable.
Look at it like this: You are lucky you caught it in time! Life go`s on. I never thought I would remarry. Now I got the best wife I could hope for, and for me, I never had it so nice in the prior 63 years!

But when in the hospital they put me on oxygen at night as they think I also have sleep apnya. So I now have a oxygen bottle and generator next to my bed for night time use.I went back for a blood test today to see if the thinner's are doing there stuff but the doc called and increased the cumadin to 7mg and I need to go sunday for more blood work.

I know it's rough but hang in there! It's been my experience that just when things look like it will never get better something comes along and things just somehow work out. I know what you feel like, at 54 I found myself in the cardiac ICU wondering just what the heck happened. And yes it could get worse, your mother in law could move in with you!

I take warfarin. This happened to me in 2,000. They tried takeing me off warfarin after about a year or two. I had to drive from calif to wis. They had warned me to get out and walk every hour. I didnt. When I got back to calif I got another painfull clott on the knee. Then they put me back on warfarin for life. Your shots are probley lubinox? Every time you have a operation they stop the blood thinner for about a week and take lubinox shots in the stomach every day. I also had my nose cut off due to cancer and had to take shots in the gut for some time before and after surgery. My wife is very good giveing the shots, better than the nurse`s.
Years back if you were a pilot, blood thinners were a no-no. You lost your medical certificate and had to quit flying. I fought it and just won my certificate back. However I have to have my blood checked monthly and give records yearly and the physical is good for one year at a time instead of the usual two years.
I really dont take care of myself like I should. The doctors would have you exerciseing regularly, diet and be whip thin. I am 3 spins on the scale and the only exercise I get is my recliner handel. They have a blood test they do monthly. They just prick your finger. I think it is called a INR. They want you between 2 and 3. Higher is thinner blood, lower is too thick. Warfarin is the cheaper generic thinner. (Really rat poison).
Good luck and stay checked. Its a balance act. Thick will give you a clot that can break loose and it goes to either the brain, heart or lungs. All bad. Too thin, and you can bleed out if injured. That happened to me too,-twice! After I had my nose cut off while I was recouperating, I fell flat on my face, broke the new nose and almost died in emergency, what they had to do wasnt fun either time!
Take care of yourself and you will be okay.

No way as she died when my wife was 6 year's old. But ohoh when I was in the hospital my wife said we had a visiter as the dog was acting strange and would not stop looking at one of the chair's in the living room . He just sat and would not take his eye's off that chair. My wife was brought up in a convent that was a old TB sanatorium that was supposidly haunted. feralmerrell you hit the med's on the button.

I feel for you. I visited the docs last week trying to figure out how extensive the nerve damage in my left arm and hand is. We have done a few more tests and I got an injection, nearly no change, plus I now have a lump on my hand that is related to the nerve that leads to my elbow, and the fingers are constricting inward. I am in a good moment right now as most of the time that hand is numb and there is pain in the elbow. But I just have to keep plugging away.

A lot of people your age are fighting diabetes, cancer, heart disease or some combination thereof. You are a kid compared to many. Cheer up and enjoy what you can. Go to the range. The grim reaper is surely on his way for all of us.

bob,
Sure sorry to hear about that list of bad stuff. I do agree with the
idea that you need to look forward, not back. While I was losing weight due to no money, and enjoying the constant pain that seems to be my reward for a life spent working, I still had the internet, and found the
Forum. Just that brightened up my days, and has kept me positive.
Times got better, instead of worse. Never give up, never back up!
I'd worry if you just accepted your lot. Although chronically strapped
for cash, I've got another firearm coming and can hardly wait to go shooting. Remember the days before you got infected with the S&W
affliction? You probably thought you were happy then!
I've gone from walking around looking like a monkey humping a football
to upright, and have hopes of being able to run again. Your day will
come, too! It may not be what you expected, but it WILL get better.

Bob if you do have apnya that could be the cause of all your probs. When you dont breathe, the carbon dioxied builds up in your organs cause you aint breath'n it out. Stay on the O2 it will give you the sleep you need and if your on a bi-pap or c-pap it will keep you breath'n right. The CO2 build up in your organs causes pain in your joints, just like artheritus only worse. If you are heavy lose some weight your belly can pull down on your diaphram and not let your lungs work like they should. Keep your head up listion to the docs. Ask him about pickwicians diesease.
