Default Hoppes, how I love it

My 2003 HD Softail had to sit unloved for a period of time while I was overseas. Even though I put Stabil in it, the gas was toast and the carb was clogged up when I finally got to bring her back to life.

Long story short, Hoppes (I just happened to have some handy) worked pretty darn well as a parts cleaner when I pulled the carb apart.

Due regard is required while using any solvent around rubber o-rings, seals, and gaskets.

Anyone have similar uses to pass along?

Does using it as aftershave count?

Good to hear; I'd have suggested draining it for storing that long or have somebody you trust start it up every week or so.

I'm always torn between draining and going the Stabil route. The Stabil has always worked for me in the past. When I was living in Florida I preferred this method because you can top the tank off and minimize the chance of condensation in the high humidity climate.

Gas these days has 10% alcohol. Stabil won't help as long as it would if real gas was there.
