The shooting of an Iowa deputy sheriff
A week ago today the sheriff and 2 deputies from Keokuk Co. Iowa went to a rural farm house to question a individual about gun shot damage to a neighbor's house the previous day. The individual fired on the officers killing one of the deputies. This is the first Iowa LEO shot and killed in line of duty since 1985.
Today more details were released showing a 49 rounds fire by the individual and 115 by LEOs.
The new conference makes for intersting reading can be found at The Des Moines Register | Des Moines news, community, entertainment, yellow pages and classifieds. Serving Des Moines, Iowa | DesMoinesRegister.com or KCRG-TV9 | Cedar Rapids, Iowa News, Sports, and Weather.

One large unanswered question is why Krier, a 53-year-old with a long history of mental illness, opened fire on officers. Unquote
NO, the question is why a man with a "long history of mental illness" still had firearms!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, the question here is how did a man survive taking all those hits to the chest and still be walking around. Maybe the troopers began using 9mm but even that should have brought the man down. Then his being hit by rifle fire and remaining upright is unbelievable.

Report: 139 shots fired in Keokuk County gunbattle | The Des Moines Register | DesMoinesRegister.com
The TAC teams shooting at him engaged him at 270 yards. I presume that was rifle fire. They shot 25 rounds and hit 23 times. That's pretty good at that range for the State Troopers tactical boys.
Agreed, amazing he didn't go down. I guess this underlines why you are supposed to shoot until the threat is eliminated and why having extra ammo on you isn't a bad idea.

happened 45 miles from me. total news coverage for about a week. this will be used by the libs as a reason to not have the state take control of the mental health system. iowa has 99 counties and 99 different standards of care. the word care is used loosely in regards to many counties too. news conference by head of iowa dci was interesting to say the least.

Good shooting, no doubt, but what were they shooting? Wouldn't a .223 have lost a lot of energy at 270 yards? I'd feel a lot better with a .308.
