Tax Donor State VS: Tax Receiver State
I am seeing some stuff about taxes and worth of some parts of the country of late. So I have to wounder if any one knows who or what states pay or recive more or less tax dollars. Some states are doner states and some states are recipiant states, which is which? Anybody have a clue?

I can almost guarantee Mississippi is a recipient state. I don't see any of the proceeds though because I work for a living.

Charlie, MS is not in the top group according to what I just found.
According to a Census report released this week, the federal government spent nearly $2.79 trillion domestically during fiscal year 2008, which ended last September. That amounts to $9,184 for each person living in the United States.
But that $9,184 was not distributed among evenly among the 50 states. The top state, Virginia, gets more than twice as many federal dollars for each resident as Utah, the bottom state.
(To see the state-by-state breakdown, See Page xxii of the Census report.)
The Top 5:
1. Virginia ($15,256 spent per capita)
2. Maryland ($13,829)
3. Alaska ($13,730).
4. Kentucky ($12,242)
5. New Mexico ($12,017)
The Bottom 5:
46. Minnesota ($7,326)
47. Oregon ($7,264)
48. Wisconsin ($7,132)
49. Nevada ($6,638)
50. Utah ($6,255)

Did a little more research, Charlie. NJ gets back on $0.61 for every $1.00 paid in, the least of any.
MS gets back $2.02 for each $1.00 paid in and ranks #49. NM gets back $2.03 for each $1.00 paid in and ranks #50.
Of course if you reversed the stats, then MS is #2 and NM is #1 and NJ is #50, so all depends on how you look at things.
Is the glass half full or half empty?
I gotta' stop and chat with you in Brooklyn one day as I go back and forth on Hwy-49 about twice per month.
Good Luck,

Glad to see those "free" states like those Yankee dollars so much.

The DATA is confusing because the lowest numbers are the states that pay the most (tax) dollars as per what they get back and the higest numbers are the states the recive the most (tax) dollars.
As in for every dollar you pay in taxes you get back .50 cents that would make your state a #1.
Edit to say: That is depending on what DATA base you look at. I looked at the USDOA DATA. 1981 to 2008

Well then why isn't NJ listed in your top and bottom 5+5. I do agree with you by the way but you can see my confusion.

Different statistics...amount per person...is different from amount paid and amount received.
I used to work for the Census Bureau and YES their data can be confusing at times.

Yep, that’s what you git when you git involved with the govt. mass confusion. We had multiple tornadoes last night, thousands out of power, many - many homes destroyed. Major flooding of 1000's of acres of ground in multiple counties. Major rivers like the Wabash, Tippecanoe, Kankakee, and Ohio River. So we all went down to the Colts stadium and stood around waiting for the FEMA boys to show up with the checks, no one came, so we all went home and started doing the work ourselves. But that’s not new it happens every year and that's what we do.
