Default Kohler or Moen?

We're about to change five faucets in the house, four bath and one kitchen. Lowes guy is recommending Kohler but our plumber says Moen is better. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Can't speak for Kohler or the guy at Lowes just trying to make a living but I recommend Moen. I remodeled our bathroom 17yrs ago and replaced all the fixtures with Moen. To this day they still look like new and we've never had a problem. I recently remodeled our kitchen and went with Moen again. Back then they were supposed to be the best and I think today it still holds true.

Neither. Delta makes a better product, and has better customer service. Delta faucets are usually more expensive than Kohler or Moen faucets.
There is a reason for this...

Fact: if you have a problem with a Delta faucet, which you most likely will not, they will make it right, no questions asked.

Fact: if you need a part for a Delta faucet and cannot wait to get it from Delta, you can find Delta faucet repair parts at just about any hardware store that carries Delta products.

Fact: neither of the above two facts apply to Kohler or Moen faucets.

Kohler and Moen change the internal designs of their faucets as often as they bring out new models. Delta does not change the internal design of their faucets very often. If/when Delta does make a change, one can always find parts for both former and current Delta designs. Good luck finding Kohler and/or Moen parts.

I do not work for Delta, Kohler or Moen and I'm not a plumber. I learned everything stated above the hard (i.e. expensive) way through the process of upgrading and remodeling our home over the past 10 years.

Trust me on this...
Delta good.
Kohler and Moen bad.

Go to your local faucet retailer of choice and select one of each brand of faucet named above. Take each faucet and examine the pieces/parts, specifically, internal working parts. Take note of the materials used, etc. Then, walk down the aisle where spare parts for faucets are displayed and take note of which of the three brands are available. You will find Delta parts. You will not find Kohler or Moen parts.

And in case you were wondering, calling Kohler or Moen will yield the exact same result as looking for a part on the parts aisle... zip, zero, nada.

Now imagine a leaking (Kohler or Moen) faucet...

And one more thing, the Plumbing Department Manager at my local Lowe's also happens to be a retired Master Plumber. The only brand of faucet he will recommend is Delta. Not all Lowe's/Home Depot employees are ignorant.

Regards,
tp

It depends upon how handy you are. If you are going to replace and repair them American Standard, Kohler, Delta and Moen are all fine. Most manufactures stand behind their product well. If you are going to use your plumber then use what ever he says. Keep in mind anything you by at Lowes, HomeDepot or most other places you will not get parts from them, they do not stock repair parts on almost anything.

I've had very good luck with American Standard and Koher. Koher stands behind everything they sell very very well. Toilets, $15,000 show spas, faucets, everything very well. The big difference is if you go to no-name brands. It's impossible to find parts and even some times instructions for them.

True statement.
And it will be sent via some sort of "get there real quick" delivery method.

My father is a plumber, and never puts in any "junk.". He says that, for the most part, the stuff at the big box stores is junk. There's usually a couple of decent lines carried at the big box stores, but you really have to be careful with what you choose. You could probably have them order you some better quality fixtures from the manufacturer's catalog, but that's assuming the retail employee would even know what a good quality fixture is... I wouldn't buy anything with chrome plated plastic. Look for solid brass bodied stuff...

My father gets his stock from plumbing supply houses, because they carry the higher end/professional fixtures. Of course, these fixtures cost more money, and that's why you don't find them in the big box stores. Quality = more money, most people, for some reason, don't want to pay for quality, hello China throw away products! The big box retailers are in a competitive dog fight, and have to cater to the lowest common denominator, and unfortunately, that rules out high quality/cost.

Kohler, American Standard, Moen, and Delta all have higher quality products, compared to what you find at the big box. Years ago I was able to find a higher end, made in USA Delta faucet at Home Depot, when I had to do a replacement, I have not seen anything like that at HD in a long time... For what it's worth, my father usually went with American Standard and Kohler. I'm not sure if that's changed, I'd have to ask him what he goes with these days...

I've been around the block a few times, done my own plumbing, and other home repairs until my hands could no longer hold the wrench. I've used all common and uncommon brands of faucets, eventually all except Delta gave me problems... and it's true about repair parts, Delta easy to fins and fix, others, forget it.

Just did the kitchen and main bathoom sink with Delta because the Moen they were replacing had surface rust pitting coming through the surface of the finish. 4 years old each of them and I spent extra then for the quality??? The guy at Home Depot laughed when I asked about replacements. Delta appears to be superior in finish and major parts quality from what I can see and I hope to never have to use the lifetime warranty on each. Oh yeah the kitchen was also leaking from the main internal valve assembly when not turned on and after a few searches discovered I didn't have the PHD or time to deal with it. Delta is what I would recommend after being a home owner for 40 years.

Had some renovations done at the camp up north 18 years ago, put in Kohler faucets in sinks & showers.

Over the years once or twice didn't drain before the freeze, Kohler replaced the guts on a phone call, no questions other than model #, no charge.

I have had a Moen kitchen faucet for years and it has leaked two times. All I have had to do is call customer service at Moen and in a few days a complete repair kit shows up in my mail box, no charge.

Delta. They also make Peerless brand.

Moen used to be good but are now *******. I used to have all Moen faucets in 2 homes. and even bought my own cartridge puller to replace them when the would stick, Now they have the plastic cartridges which are actually easier to pull than the brass ones as they come out in pieces. The exteriors of the Moens pit and corrode. You can get the cartridges for free if you call them and tell them the faucet leaks, not that it's hard to pull,

Replaced the bathroom faucets in 3 bathrooms about four years ago, I went with Delta also. They work as smooth today as the day they went in and we have some really hard water down here. I have no complaints with their products at all.

Plumbing now for 27 years....
Chicago if you want the best.
I personally have an American Standard in my bathroom and a Delta in the kitchen, both single handle.

Well, I work at Lowe's (and oddly enough, I graduated high school), and I'd point someone to Delta (it's what I put in my kitchen last fall), then Moen, then Kohler.
