Hot days ahead
I'm talking about the weather, of course. It's summer here in the Philippines and temperature has been soaring around 36.5 degrees Celsius (96.8 Fahrenheit). I remember running around during summer breaks, playing with the rest of the kids and not worrying about the heat. Now it feels like we're under a magnifying lens. Odd weather we're having lately.

I sympathize with you because I can recall the heat and humidity of Sangley Point in the Philippines this time of year when our Navy patrol aircraft would land there. It was awful!
Summer is still more than a month away here in the U.S. and we have already hit a three fidget figure in Arizona. Yesterday was the second day so far this year in which the temperature was over 100F. Today is suppose to be even hotter where I live.
I cannot complain because we are fortunate to have air conditioned cars, homes and shops, etc. However, I can remember a time before WWII when the only way to cool off momentarily was to douse with water.

I hope your stay here in the Philippines, however brief, was pleasant enough. I live just a few kilometers away from Sangley.
The thing about the heat here is it's extremely humid. Air conditioning is truly a good way to beat the heat. Still, you have to go out sooner or later.
May I ask, sir, when you were stationed here?

Greetings to you.
My squadron flew in and out of Sangley Point from 1950 - 1954. We were not stationed there but landed to refuel and sometimes refit engines.
My memory is that the humidity was worse there than on Guam. However, the people were friendly and very cooperative to us.

I too was stationed in the Philippines at Clark Air Base. Was there from about Sept. 63 to March/April 65. I liked the weather and did not have much trouble with the heat or humidity. Most people were very friendly also.

To all of you who may have been here before, I do hope your stay left pleasant memories. The country has changed from the last time you were here. Some changes are good, some bad. But then I guess that's how things are on some places, too.

The Philippines is a beautiful place. Unfortunately I didn't get to see much of it as I broke my leg in two places shortly after I arrived. My dad was there often during his thirty years in the Navy, and my mom flew over to meet my dad one year and spent two weeks touring. She really loved it.

Sorry to hear about the leg. An accident caused it? Your dad may have
been stationed in either Subic, Zambales or Sangley Point, Cavite.

I lived in Batangas for a year, 1946 - 1947. Really loved it.

Hello REM. Batangas is a beautiful place. It's known for its rice and sugarcane fields. It's also famous for it's beaches.

Nice to her from you Jun225, we will be where you are at temperature-wise in a month or two. A good excuse for cold drinks and a dip in the pool!
