I've got to get this off my chest
Dear Dad:
I am the one who took your Sears Craftsman 3/8 variable speed drill about 30 years ago. I always meant to return it, but every time I used it, it reminded me of you so ....I kept it. I'm sorry.
I enclose it now to right a wrong. You might have better luck returning it for a working one.
Your loving son,
Gary
PS The new Dewalt I got at Lowe's today is really sweet, but it really just isn't the same.

Did you just confess to theft or unauthorized use?
Is there a statute of limitations on such a crime?
Is there any other crimes of which you would like to implicate yourself ?

Interesting Question. Theft would have prescribed. I'm not so sure about the unauthorized use as it could be construed as continuing. Maybe I should just throw it away and go with the theft-if I sent it back he'd press charges on the unauthorized use-he was kinda "peeved" when he couldn't find it and I probably uttered a falsehood when he asked if I had it
And as far as the Key, I changed out the chuck to a keyless one AT MY OWN EXPENSE about 20 years ago.
Guys y'all are the greatest!! Instead of fessing up, begging forgiveness and clearing my conscience and leaving myself open to criminal charges-I'll just throw it away and move on! Whew!! That was close.

Was there an intent to PERMANENTLY deprive him of the use?

Your Dad contacted me to investigate this matter. Even sent me my standard retainer. (He said you charge him an even higher one). So now that I have all the facts I'll come get it. C'mon, Caj, you know the "drill", I don't want to "bore" you, don't put any "spin" on it. You can't get out of this "hole", you don't have the "power". I know you thought you could keep "plugging" away, but we've "shut you off".
There, I hope you got a "charge" out of that.

Think they plan to "chuck" you into a cell and throw "key" away.

CajunLawyer,
And now we know the hole story.
I can't imagine the hardship that your poor old dad has suffered over the years. But I heard that he borrowed your grandfather's brace and bit 60 years ago and is just getting around to returning it to the rightful owner now. I'd keep an eye on the new DeWalt when Caje, Jr. is around.

In our early teens, my cousin and I "borrowed" a stick of dynamite from my uncle's store. We blew-up a 15-foot high dirt cliff cow path as the cows passed by - that was fun. I bet the cows owner didn't get any milk from those cows for a month. My uncle never did find out about it

If borrowing, or just taking your Dad's tools and keeping them is a crime, then I will probably get 30 days in the electric chair.
Peace,
gordon

May I suggest that you follow your own, very good advice, “No one talks and everybody walks.” Just destroy the evidence and keep your mouth shut.
