Default So what else do you collect?

So what else do you have that you collect? I remember as a kid collecting Matchbox Cars. I wish my parents had kept them considering what some are worth. I had hundreds of cars. I got an allowance of $3 a week for helping out, and since they were cheap, I would usually get three cars or at least one. Birthdays, Christmas was filled with tons of these things. I had all the cases and an wooden packing crate filled with those cars.
I have a few cars now, but they are bigger and have more significance. I have a couple of S & W cars, but a few more. I have a 1/24 Crown Vic that was our first formal transport car (we had three) with our department, the new ones are blue and I am some day going to have one of those done. The white diplomat is identical to the car my father had growing up in Rouses Point, NY. The department was so laid back that I remember going with him to get the car, and watching him put the decal, just a simple seal, on each side of the car in our driveway. it was like Mayberry, I remember during the summer going with him on calls, not that we had alot, but I remember a couple of really good brush fires. Can you imagine doing that now? I was only 6-7 years old! In the middle case are a couple of my older cars. The red Thunderbird is very special, its the only car of my original collection I still have, it was given to me by my grandfather at my birthday when I was only around 6 if I remember right. The Ford Bulletnose is my favorite car. The #40 car is a gift for my son, along with the black Studebaker to get him started with.

Gun related; I collect cartridges.

Non-gun collection; I collect paintings by A.D.M. Cooper and Benjamin Raborg, two California artists. Do 4 motorcycles constitute a collection?

I've alway unerstood that if you have 3 or more of anything it can be considered a collection. If that's true I guess that I have a collection of collections......

Magnets. For the past several years I have collected "tourist" magnets from the various places I've been able to visit. Most are from the US, mostly the western states, plus various cities in England, Ireland, Scotland, Norway, Holland, France, Spain, Italy, Vatican City, Monaco, Canada and Mexico. My wife won't let me put them all on "her" refrigerator, so most wind up on my gun safes. I have tee shirts from many of those places as well.

"Been there, done that, got the tee shirt."

Dinky toys from my childhood as a kid. You can see them on ebay. These are diecast metal cars/trucks and military vechicles from england. The older prewar ww2 they have real link tracks on the tanks and personal carriers. I want to had them down to my grandkids someday so they can enjoy them too.

I have old tractors too.

I have collected everything now but women. I haven't gotten that far yet.

When i became ill i sold off my vintage collection of 25 husqvarna dirtbikes all restored and running with a warehouse of parts. Bill

Used to kind of collect knives. Now I just have a lot of knives.

I have four sets of handcuffs, one of thumbcuffs, one of legcuffs, which may not seem like a lot, but I need none. A few ASP collapsible batons, but at least I've carried one or another a few times.

I used to collect matchbox cars, baseball cards, and rocks. Now I collect guns, decanters, old glass bottles, skulls (legally obtained game skulls), mileage on my vehicle, and money.

Also when I was younger I had a "bullet collection" which I tried to get an unfired round of every caliber I could find. Now I try to collect as many of every caliber I can find.

I have been collecting, buying, selling knives of all types for years. I am especially fond of the knives that are hand forged, no matter how crude they might be. There is just something about knowing the sweat and toil that went into creating it.

I also enjoy handcrafted holsters from all eras. It is interesting how styles and tastes have changed in holsters over the years. Currently, it seems that "exotic leathers" and detailed hand boning is espeically popular..

kshock beat me to it. I have several small collections of stuff my grandparents had. Most of it from post war Germany where they lived in 1946 while he was in civil service ordinance. Beer steins, very early Hummels, cut glass, some art pottery. I'm into genealogy, so you could say I collect dead relatives.

Belly button lint
past due medical bills (I had a set of preemie twins that spent 5 months in the hospital before coming home)
I have over 500 movies on DVD/Blu Ray, I guess that is a collection

Orlando

PS: I guess this assumes I "collect" S&W, when really, I don't have a collection of them.

When I was a small boy at the end of the war I collected caps. I came from a huge family and had 8 to 10 uncles in the war. Somehow most of them brought me a cap or hat when they came home. The word must have got out. I had a drawer full and dont know what happened to them. I had german and jap military caps. I do have several russian and german pocket watchs from one uncle. When I asked him how he got the russian watch he said hell, when I saw the first russian soliders I thought they were japs! He was there at the rhine when the americans met the russians.
I also collect many of those model cars that you see at truck stops. Got about 30 of the older classic ones. Not into the modern stuff.

I don't collect, I accumulate. I have accumulations of guns (many different types), watches, knives, reloading stuff, and a few old cameras as well as a few other things. I don't seem to be able to own one of anything. If I become "interested", (read obsessed), with something I usually end up with several examples of it before my interest wanes.

I am more of an accumulator than a collector: lots of motorcycles,

several English and European 3-speed bikes,

a few Mamod steam toys, quite a few old and repro tin toys, including several Tucher & Walter ("Sammlerspielzeug, nicht für Kinder geeignet").

Antique camera's from late 1800's to around 1940's. Just a few, I have about 4 dozen scattered around.

I also rebuild bamboo fly rods, (and use them). And the wife and I collect Cameo's, mostly the shell cameo's, but have many others also. Gives us a few things to look for when visiting antique shops.

books (one of my favorites is a 1st ed Poe compilation)
records, as far back as 78's. One of my favorites is an Empire Strikes back soundtrack, mint, the promo poster that came with it was still in the album cover, no thumbtack holes. I haven't even dropped he needle on it and am kind of scared too.
Many music items, and vintage horns as well as daily players. There is something about the distinctive smell of a funky old musty horn that I really like. For me, that smell is about as powerful as freshly mowed grass or gun oil smell.

Stein Guys.....
What can you tell me about these? (Age, Value, etc.)
I picked them up at an estate sale a number of years ago, but don't consider myself a stein collector.
I think they are pushing definite old age.....

I particularly like #3 with the old guy and his cat looking like they've tippled a few and #6 with Hansel & Gretal stuffing the witch into the oven......

I'm awful interested in the New York Yankees and the Oregon State Beavers, baseball especially. I have a great lot of items to do with each. I seem to collect ballcaps, (intentionally or not) and have about 50 of those. I have a tremendous collection of books, with a lot of those being of the outdoors, shooting type. I used to collect coins, and sorta autographs, too, but no longer seek those out much. I play a decent amount of golf now, too, and try to "collect" as many 'tee balls' as I can, (as opposed to losing them in the woods or water.) I also used to collect medical bills, but the less of that the better, am I wrong? I also try to own as many movies as I can afford, and like to be "fluent" in that subject. Time was I had a lot of LPs, but those days are gone, sadly. Over the last 25-30 years I've had my hands in no small number of interests. As with other folks, some stuck, some didn't. Wonder what'll be next...?

Knives, coins, cartridges, bullet moulds, old Ma Bell telephone stuff.
CWSpook, how many WPM can you pound with that? I learned on one like that from a neighbor back in the '70's.
As far as knives go, I gave up on Case knives years ago, just too mass produced. If you want a hot collectable knife line right now check out anything made by Great Eastern Cutlery. They put modern Case knives to shame.

Savage 1895's, 1899's and 99's. Only have eight, but a couple are a little unusual; an 1899 first year 250/3000 with deluxe wood and checkering that was delivered to a corporate officer, and a 99T, in 30/30, which was made from about 1935 to 1940. Nice ones are as hard to find as nice Smiths, but it's fun to look.
