Refurbishing the Front Door
After three hurricanes and uncounted lesser storms, the wooden front door has lost its sheen. After a dose of Murhy's oil soap, what clear finishes hold up best for you? Thank you. Rick

Water based poly is junk for outdoors use but will dry clear. Real poly will have that slight golden tone and will chip over time. Lacquer and varnish both dry golden in my experience but are tough stuff. But my choice if you can find it would be a shellac. I have used the Zinsser brand and loved it, but it is another golden tone when dry.

Spar Varnish, which is technically shellac will hold up quite well, after all it's what was once used for the "brightwork" on sailboats. It's also available at about and Marine outfitter.

For my outdoor chairs, I use a mixture of Tung oil, spar varnish, and turpentine. It gives a nice finish that wears over time instead of chipping or flaking. Takes a while to dry, so dust can be a problem,

Perhaps you should link this thread to the one with all the folks who are getting their doors kicked in by the police acting illegally. They will likely be able to answer your question.
Be safe.

No Caj, her job is to complain about it after it is done and at least once a day every day thereafter.
