Default Need to hear your thoughts on the Desantis Belt Clip Grip!

For summertime shorts and so forth I thought this might be a handy way to carry my J Frame. Like to hear from those of you that have used this method also. Thanks for your time.

I haven't used the new DeSantis grip, but bookmarked their site, as it looks promising. I have used a similar rig, the Barami "Hip Grip" combined with a Tyler T-grip adapter. This was a satisfactory carry method for J-frames, and the DeSantis rig appears to address all the shortcomings and failings of the Barami/Tyler combo, i.e., it has the right ergonomics, a decently textured, sweat impervious material, etc. It appears to have a sufficient gap between the "lip" and the sideplate to permit use with a fair thickness of belt and waistband, etc. I just may try one...

I've been using one for a few weeks, and I like it a lot. I typically carry mine hooked into the top of my front pocket (where it resides as I type this) rather than my waistband, but it works fine either way.

The Barami Hip Grip/Tyler-T this gun used to wear have been moved over to my secondary carry gun.

I personally like mine to stay firmly attached to the belt, even if I need to (for example) use the sit-down in a public restroom. Blackhawk makes a nice leather holster for the J-frame. Held about as close to the body as you can for an OWB, and quite reasonably priced. I highly recommend it. Just my two cents worth.

I used to use a Barami with a Tyler T. I'm about to buy a 3 inch S&W model 60, and if it shoots as well as I have heard it does, I intend to get a DeSantis With a clip grip. I think the 3 inch barrel should give a great stability. I've no idea what the grip will feel like, but then again I don't intend to shoot .357 in it, but .38 P +.

Anybody ever hear the term, "cold steel"? Hmmm, wait a minute, in the summer you might have something there.

Default Desantis Clip Grip review

I have added the Clip Grip to my 638 and 642. I can't say enough about this slick little product. When we're camping I can slip my J Frame into the wasteband of draw string shorts with only a T shirt to cover what little grip shows. Over time and varying weather conditions I did take some 60 grit sand paper to rough it up. Remember to take the grips off before doing this! It works with most holsters if you need to use one but for the ultimate in concealed carry with a J Frame the Desantis clip grip is the way to go. I also like the way the clip keeps the trigger finger from wandering into the trigger guard.

I used a Barimi hip grip on a bobbed mod 60 for years. Loved it for carry, Disliked it for felt recoil as it was hard and squarish in profile.! Worked better than most IWB holsters as it carried the gun/butt lower so it wasn't jamming into my gut. With this style grip, the cylinder tends to lock down under my belt for a secure feel. I just bought one of the desantis grips but have not used it yet as I'm finding it hard to part with my CT lasers on my 360pd. The new desantis does seem a bit more comfortable in the hand than the barimi but I have not had a chance to try it. ( Need another model 60 I guess.)

I am wearing one now. It is ideal for many but not every carry situation. I would not be as sanguine about using the same arrangement to carry a SA weapon but with these J Frame revolvers, I think it is great and VERY convenient. I like the DeSantis version of this holdering technology better than the Barami product although that one looks interesting as well.

Somewhat uncomfortable if the weapon is carried for any length of time especially in hot weather when you sweat. No protection for blued guns from body salts (perspiration) and places the widest part of a revolver (the cylinder) directly under your belt - to bulge out.

I suppose for short trips to the market or gas station it's not bad but I would not want to carry that way for 12 hours a day.

I just found this thread and was about to buy the barami.

Is the belt clip longer on the barami or desantis?

I guess chief38 and I have to serve as "devil's advocates." I own 2 Wyatt 637 revolvers on which this grip is standard. I have removed them and add my reasoning to that of chief38 above. The grip is slippery and does not tighten sufficiently on the frame. The "shelf"/clip is not long enough IMO to hold the gun securely. On a previous thread on this grip, another poster reported the gun and grip would move UP and OUT of the waistband when carried during the course of a day.

They say "for every Jack, there's a Jill," and "that's why there's more than one horse in a race." But some Jills don't bear looking at and some nags never finish in the money.

I had Barami hip grips on my s&w 638. One day I stopped on the river bank and began skipping rocks on the water. The 638 fell off my belt and bounced off some rocks then almost went in the drink.
I took those grips off and went back to pocket carry and haven't looked back.

In Ohio carry guns by law must be in a holster.

In Ohio you are breaking the law not carrying in a holster.

Default Barami Hip Grip & BK Grip Adapter

Not a Desantis but it is one of my favorite carry rigs.

That's a nickel Model 37 no dash, so it's really light weight.
The Barami Hip Grip is also a hollow plastic design and even the BK Grip adapter in light weight. The clipped hammer also reduces any snag risk.

This same set up comes in a nice ivory color too. I think that the ivory set would be the bee's knees on a blued J-frame.
