Default You have three choices.....

.....and they're all Glocks. Yep. I've never owned or fired one, but am curious. Pick one and if you like, state your reasons why. Thanks

I've fired a couple of different Glocks. The 19 fit my hand really well. It had a worked trigger and Trijicon sights. I ripped a ragged hole at 10 yards. That surprised me.

But a handgun should be made of metal & it should have a hammer.

Just my worthless opinion but I think they're overpriced for what they are and we probably would never have heard of St. Gaston of Polymer if it weren't for the free blitz of publicity they got when doofus lawmakers thought they couldn't be detected by metal detectors.

Kind of hard to quantify - I've owned at least 7 Glocks and sold/traded off 6 of them (including all on your list). The only one that I let go that I now which wish I had held on to was the 19.

Rat feathers! I should never have opened this thread. Now I have to disinfect my computer to get the G word off my hard drive.

Pick a Glock if it pleases you. They may be better than everything I own but I don't care. They're just to modern for my taste.

I'll leave it to the forum's numerous LEOs who have extensive experience with them to comment on specific G models.

I voted for the M19. I have had 3 or 4 Glocks and sold them all. I just don't like them and they are butt ugly. Don

If it weren’t for option 4 I would have voted for the 19. I own a 17 and while I will admit that my amateur torture testing, lack of cleaning, loaning it out to friends (never a good idea for various reasons…), and the fact that mine is a older second gen model, the fact it that I would still trust my life to it. That being said, I hate the dang thing. Besides the it’s ugly and half plastic issues, I hate the rounded 2x4 grip, the double stack mag is too fat compared to others with the same or better ammo capacity, I have dinged up plastic sights, and the grip angle combined with that fat grip makes it hard for me to shoot well. But the thing is still in my nightstand on one side. It’s slam full of Federal hollow points that I know it feeds like it’s starving and if I had to surrender it after using it to shoot some jerkyboy home invader it wouldn’t make me cry if the cops didn’t handle nice in the evidence locker and it came home scuffed up. I jokingly refer to it as “Glock Perfection” for that one and only point. Given a real option I would be checking out either the new S&W M&P’s or the new Ruger SR9/SR40 if you are looking for a poly double stack. If buying American is a big whoop to you then you might also check out the CZ line up and the FNH FNX or even the Beretta Storm models. If you are just looking for cheap and reliable then look no further than the Ruger P95. If you want reliable but moderately priced then I would be looking at the M&P. If you are looking at a .40 then rent both a Ruger SR40 that is called the softest shooting .40 on the market or the M&P .40 that is getting nothing but rave reviews. You could even try the S&W Sigma or SD. You may be on the side that says the trigger isn’t a big deal and they both have outstanding ergonomics. Or if you are a Glock fan you may already have your mind made up and are just curious how many people agree with you.

Actually, I already own an M&P 40 (one of the first ones made) and like it very much. I also agree that Ruger has some nice guns in the SR series.

They don't fit my hand. Other folks make guns that do. For me, that's the whole story.

Others have plenty of reasons to endorse or reject them.

I voted for the Glock 19, mostly because it's the only one I've ever fired. My wife has one and she likes it a lot. I've shot it, and it's a good, if somewhat boring gun.

For half the price, I'd just as soon have a Sigma (and do). Those are boring too, but are a lot less expensive.

It depends upon what you plan to do with it.

If you're going to just shoot it, or open carry it, I'd recommend the Glock 22 (I have one). When I tried carrying it concealed OWB, no matter what I did, it seemed to stick out of the bottom of whatever sweat shirt of sweater I wore. I can ONLY carry it IWB.

If you're going to carry it concealed, I'd recommend the Glock 19 or Glock 23.

My Glock 22 has quite a bit of muzzle whip with certain loads. When I was looking for larger capacity CCW auto, I had to choose between 2nd Gen Glock 19s and 23s from Summit. Based on my experience with the Glock 22, I picked a Glock 19, with which I've been very happy. If I had it to do again, I'd have gotten a Glock 23. Since I got my Glock 19, I've learned that it's quite popular to buy Glock 22s/23s and buy an extra 9x19mm barrel for them. When a friend was making the same choice, I advised him to go with the Glock 23 and an extra barrel. He's been extremely happy with it.

I’m just always curious how many people test the waters by conducting their own little social experiments. I feel the same way when I see some hot little remark about Sigma’s. Poof, instant ten pages of posts. That may be closer to web trolling. But I did say I would go with the 19, and I admitted to owning and keeping at my side a 17. So please don’t think I’m being a poindexter. Sometimes I just lack tact. Apologies if I offended you.

I chose none of the above since the poll lacked a Glock 21 option.
I'd take a 21 on the cheap as a project gun so as to tighten up the sear disconnect issue and convert to 400 corbon

I sold my Glock 27 because I traded into a M&P 40C. I like them both the same. Glock was a couple oz lighter, both shoot good. I've got a Glock 45 acp compact but I forget the model #. I like it very well.

I picked the 19.

The only 9mm I have are GLOCK -- Gen2 17 and Gen3 19. I've put tens of thousands of rounds through the 17 (mostly my reloads) over the past 20+ years and have nothing to gripe about. The 19 is a glovebox gun and isn't used so much. In general, I prefer the size of the 19 over the 17. As far as the 22 & 23 I really have never thought much of the .40, but I have no experience with either.

Of the guns listed, I voted for the Glock 19.

I have a Glock 23. I like it. It has some definite snap during recoil, but it's not something I would consider uncontrollable. I can get good hits quickly. But with 20/20 hindsight I probably would've gotten the 19 as it's lesser recoil would give me quicker follow-up shots with no significant difference in stopping power. I've read that 9mm practice ammo is cheaper than .40S&W, but I haven't compared prices myself.

I completely disregarded the full-size Glock 22. I tried one once and it did not feel as good in the hand as the compact Glocks. I think the finger grooves are spread out a little further on the full-size guns than on the compact guns; my hands are on the medium-smallish side and the compact Glock's finger grooves fit me better.

I have Glocks and like them, but my favorite was not in the poll. I like the 34 best followed closely by the 17.

The 19 and 23 are basically the same size, so really a preference for one over the other comes down to the 9mm v. .40. I've handled a few of the 23's; they are a good compromise between the full size and the subcompacts. Either are fine.

The 22 is the full size model in .40. I have this model in 2nd and 3rd generation (department issued that I purchased when available); also a Model 27 that I carried for a backup. Easy to shoot, accurate, dependable, durable.

They fulfill my needs in a centerfire semi-auto.

I bought one of the first 17s to hit this area. I hated it. Just couldn't get used to shooting it, though it shot "OK." Went to a 19, same thing. A 22, then a 23, a 21 and so on.

I've had every single model Glock imports except the 45 GAP models. Had several of them several times.

About 15 years ago, I started to get serious about shooting the Glock and found it was very accurate, carried well, but a bit big for a guy who loves lightweight J-Frames, and, I really could shoot it well.

Have used a 35 for competition and did "OK" with it.

Now I am down to one, a 19 and it is the only 9mm I have. I love it, wouldn't part with it and use it as the Bedroom HD gun.

Took a while to fall in love with them and, in retrospect, I think it was the plastic and looks that turned me off and translated into lack of really good shooting.

Now, I like the looks and all business aspect of Glocks and wouldn't be without mine.

Bob

I've had a bunchaGlocks over the years.

While they remain as ugly as ever, I've grown rather fond of their various advantages.

In tactical tupperware, I prefer the G34 for a host of reasons.

But I *really* prefer S&W revolvers despite their disadvantages in some of the rangegamer scenarios.

I voted Glock 23, since it's closest to my only Glock, a 27.

I was a Glock hater until I got one. I remember picking up a Glock 17 in 1984 at a gunshow in Sacramento. I told my buddy "these will never catch on."

When the baby Glocks came out I got my Model 27 to replace my Chief's Special as a backup and off-duty gun. I've never regretted it.

My little Glock has never jammed, and is accurate beyond reason. As for the inevitable "no soul" comment - maybe yours doesn't, but mine does.

Once my partner and I were looking for a guy who had fugitated to New Orleans after shooting a school principal in Detroit. We didn't have a good address for him, and were rolling by a possible hangout when we saw him sitting on a porch with some thug pals. He saw us, too - a white guy and a black guy in a Taurus SHO with blackwalls. There was just enough time to hop out and poke that little Glock in his face. He got big-eyed and stopped his reach for a Taurus .44 Special under a copy of the Times-Picayune.

Yep, mine has soul.........

Now that I have come out of the closet:
I own all three but prefer the Model 23 over the Model 19 because of the caliber (.40 verus 9mm).
I find the mid-size better balanced than the Model 17/22.
I CCW a Model 27 as I seen to shoot better than the Model 26/19/23.
The first Glock I saw/handled was a Model 21 in 1990. I was totally impressived by a 13 shot .45acp with night sights service weapon. I was carrying a six shot .45acp revolver at the time.

Default I've fired and...

...handled several Glocks, and I used to own a Glock 27.

The only problem is they seem almost too generic.

My 27 never failed to fire, never failed to extract/eject.

I just never felt that it was "my gun". Same feeling I got with a HK mid-size in .40 S&W.

I've always felt my 1911's were part of me, along with my revolvers.

Carried a Glock 23 as a back up gun for several years. Now carry the Model 32 (357 Sig) and have a 40 caliber barrel for it as well. The 32 is the same size as the 23.

So far, the vote is going as I expected. As previously mentioned, I have zero experience with Glocks. Last week, I did handle a G19 in the shop. It didn't feel bad. I'm still partial to Smiths and will probably die feeling the same.

One point that was brought up made a lot of sense. If I had to use a gun to defend myself, I wouldn't mind if the cops confiscated a Glock. I'd feel pretty bad about losing a S&W. Guess that's the best reason for having a piece of Tupperware next to the bed.

Old school? Bite your tongue. We just resist change.

I know it is a very fine firearm and a few of my friends own them, but the trigger is what scares me, a semi with a safety or a revolver, that's all I want.

I do like the 26 which isn't listed but will never own one.

Get a Glock 23 and an extra 9x19mm barrel for it. That's what I wish I'd done, although I really like my Glock 19. I recommended this to a friend and he's been very happy with that arrangement.

I have a Glock 23. Nite sites and 31/2# trigger. Stone reliable. Enough rounds on tap to handle an overwhelming situation if it arises. It is accurate enough and recoils very little considering it's weight and the speed and weight of the projectile. It instills confidence with it's reliability and the rounds (40 S&W) effectivness. Conceals easily IWB and isn't fussy about being cleaned. What more could you ask for?

I have a G27, G23 and G22. Bought them in the mid '90s in that order. The G22 was my car gun for years, it lived there in sweltering summer heat and sub-zero winter cold. The G27 is my most carried summer gun and the G23 is what I most have on when wearing a sweatshirt. Of the three I own I like the G23 best. It's small enough to easily conceal, good barrel length/sight radius and holds 14 rounds of 40 S&W. When I carry any of them my spare mags are always 15 round ones from the G22. This is one of the Glock advantages, the longer mags work in the shorter guns.
I also agree they're ugly, but who cares? Mine have been scuffed up from hard use, it doesn't bother me at all. It would if it were one of my revolvers, but these are simply tools to me, and all my tools show marks from use. If any of them were lost, stolen or taken after a shooting by LE they could easily be replaced for under $500.
So, I vote for the G23, but I like all three of mine....for different reasons.
Jim

I have owned virtually every model Glock over the years and still own a few. They work well. They work as designed. They are not the end all gun.

They are ugly. They do not fit the hand well when aligned with the wrist.

A conventional name brand gun looks better, works as well, last just as long, holds it's resale value better ( bought a Glock 22 with three mags last week for $275 in great shape compared to a S&W model 29 I bought a month ago for $850, which is more than it cost new) and a conventional gun has more buyer appeal.

Used to own a few Glocks, a 1911 and a Sig. All I have left is a Glock 26 and a bunck of S&W revolvers. Now that I'm retired I carry what I want, not what they say I have to.

I sold a G23 last week with a spare 9mm barrel. I picked up a Ruger SR9c and a p95. Cost combined new, for both was a bit more than I got for the G23. The 95 resides next to the bed. I'm going to all 9mm. This video review of the SR9c is a bit lengthy and verbose, but it why I like the gun.

This is not hard. G-22RTF. No question about it. Have owned and played with 17, 21, 22. Very much prefer the 22. Nothing wrong with the others. Just simply prefer the 22. Reasons... extremely good combination of power, bullet weight, capacity. Size is just about perfect for the .40 S&W cartridge using any reasonable bullet weight. My 22RTF has been absolutely perfect in function and on target accuracy every since I bought it. To date it has fired right at 3,000 rds. It has been in every respect excellent. POA is POI. Out to 15 yds., I can put 15 rounds into 2.5 inches or less firing from a two-handed standing hold. Out to 25 yds., I can shoot it almost as good as I can my .44 Special 21-4 firing double-action. And, of extreme importance to me... my wife likes and uses well the 22 at home defense distances, i.e., 10 yds. or less. As far as beauty and esthetics are concerned, some say pretty is as pretty does. By that standard, the G-22RTF is nothing less than the perfection of the pistol. Others say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. By that standard, the G-22RTF is to some beautiful like a A-10 Warthog. To others, it is less appealing. For simple beauty and grace, it is hard to beat the 9mm Luger pistol or the .38 Special S&W M&P revolver. I very much like the G-22RTF. It is a tremendous pistol. It is one of my most often handled and fired handguns. JMHO. Sincerely. bruce.

I love my Smiths, Colts, Rugers and some others ........ but if I knew I was going in harms way, I would be reaching for my only Glock.... a G23.

I’ve owned older generation G22’s and G23’s. Neither would run with a light attached.

I now own two G19’s and a G26.

How I came to it was unique to my circumstances. Before the last Presidential election I bought the two G19’s and plenty of mags. One for each for my daughters when they become older. I also wish I’d never seen the likes of a 40 S&W caliber gun, and kept it simple to buying and sorting 9mm and 45 acp brass. I bought the G26 for my wife, though she shot the 40 cals without trouble.

Bigger is always better when it comes to both guns and bullets, but I can live with the 9mm in my case. The G17-19’s are kind of the AK of pistols.

At home a valid point.

However when carrying I never get it. The gun on your hip is probably the safest gun in your collection at that time, due to the chances of using it in a self defense shooting, vs. fire or theft at home.

However everybody needs a Glock for air travel because who cares if it’s stolen

I voted Glock 19. I own a G19, 2 G20s, a G23 w/ .357 Sig bbl, and a G27 w/ .357 Sig bbl. I currently use the G23 w/ ,357 Sig bbl as my CCW as well as my HD gun.

Obviously, everyone's hands are different (as are their tastes), so we're never going to all agree on one gun, and that's just fine.

I have to chuckle, however, at all of the "no plastic guns for me" comments...especially after the proven strength and longevity of the pistol, not to mention that every company under the sun has marketed their own "plastic" gun since the Glock, even S&W. A hundred years ago, these same folk would be saying, "these new-fangled self-loaders will never catch on", and in the late '30s, "I'll never trust that Garand...it'll never be better than the Springfield", etc, etc.

I imagine it's been the same story down through the centuries...people resist, and even fear, change.

Tim

I suppose someday I will own a polymer gun, the same day they make a polymer criminal. Until then I think I will stick with all steel.

Haha! Okay...so, I guess you're saying that currently all criminals are made of steel? By that logic...shouldn't your pistol be made of flesh? Ewww...no thanks!

Meh...to each his own.
