Been Sick
I have had the wind took out of my sails for the past week or so. It all started the Saturday before Christmas. The day before, on Friday, we had an office Christmas lunch.
On Saturday morning I was having coffee with my wife, and I remember telling her that I just didn’t feel right. I could really describe the symptoms but just felt off. By that night, I had a flaming sore throat, nothing else, just a sore throat. Well, I toughed it out, and just stayed away from everyone through Christmas Day. Next morning I felt better so I went to work and from there had to expectedly go out of town(for work).
About an hours drive later I realize I’m feeling like ****, but I’m in the middle of a job and have others with me so I can’t just up and leave. But next day; I’m at the docs as soon as he opens. He says whatever it was must have run its course and sends me home. Next morning I can’t even get up. Pneumonia. Doc says my lungs were fine Thursday morning but twenty four hours later, I was on deaths door. Didn’t get out of bed for three days. Today’s the first day I’ve been out of the house since. I know it doesn’t matter a hill of beans to a total stranger, but I’ve spent a lot of this time in this Forum. That and watched every Jesse Stone movie that’s been released.
Thanks for keeping my mind occupied otherwise I’d have been cabin fever crazy

My dad has a very similar experience. I saw him Thursday afternoon and by 0400 on Saturday he was in the ER. He stayed in the hospital for three days. He is75 and I really thought this was going to be the end. I’m glad you are feeling better and continue to recover!!

I’m fifty two and felt I was in my prime, but as a was laying there wheezing I was reminded of my grandfather when he was passing; he was 96. My dad just told me that it’s so much more important to take care of yourself once you get to a certain age

To me it sounds like exposure to a toxin.

I don't think I have pneumonia but that sounds like what I've been doing for the past week. Started the same way. Z pack helped but may not have done the job. Still hacking, etc. Too much TV and this forum. And yeah, I've had my pneumonia shot like 2 years ago and the high strength version of the flue shot. I think it's called the creeping crud.

I’m supposed to go for a follow up tomorrow if I’m not all better.
I am much better but I’m still rattling in my chest and coughing

I am sure the doctor has you loaded up but we really like the Musinex DM with the chest congestion.

I'm glad you have bounced back....
Sudden serious illnesses are not something anybody wants.

It is nice to hear that you are on the mend. Pneumonia is something that can come on suddenly and virulently. A number fo years ago I attended an 8 year old girl who had been running around at school all day while her brother was home sick. At 7 pm she just collapsed from pneumonia that was fatal. Nothing could be done for her.
And there have been a number of older people I have seen where the same thing has happened.
My father had pneumonia and was in hospital for a week. The Saturday they told him he could go home on Monday morning was the day he passed away.
Any unusual symptoms should be checked out, especially in winter and if shortness of breath or just "not feeling right".
Better to be faced with a doctors visit for simple "man flu" than something that can incapacitate you so suddenly.

Been there and done that....
The last year that I worked, I got very sick four times, really five. I'm "that guy" who never misses work.
I worked on the dark and dirty side of LE, still in my sixties and on my feet a minimum of sixty hours per week, all hours. I thought I was superman. Chasing after my memories of my tough Dad.
Woke up once that last year with what felt like a broken rib, but with a fever. Crawled to the doctor's office. X ray. "You got pneumonia. Stay in bed five days and take all these pills."
A month later, chest pains, go to doctor. X ray. "You got Pleurisy. Stay in bed five days and take all these pills."
A month later, screaming headache. Almost called EMT's. High fever. Rash on left side of back of scalp. "You got shingles. Stay in bed five days and take all these pills."
A month later, chest pains, real bad. Go to doctor. X ray. "You got bronchitis. Stay in bed five days and take all these pills."
A month later, broken ribs feeling again. High fever. Go to ER. Get X ray. Get CAT. "You got real bad pneumonia and you're having a gallbladder attack. "Stay in bed five days and take all these pills. BUT, put this prescription in your wallet. IF YOU FEEL SICK, IMMEDIATELY GET THESE PILLS. YOU MAY DIE NEXT TIME."
So, I saw the light and set up my retirement date and never looked back.
Now I'm fit as a fiddle and feel like eighteen again. No more illnesses, Praise the Lord!
Moral of my story; You can and maybe should work until you drop. However, not all jobs are for the seniors and stress will put you in the graveyard.

Glad you're feeling better and I hope it has passed what ever it is. From what I read mystery sickness's suck.
I can't remember being "sick". Other than a heart attack and cancer I've always been pretty healthy.

Labor Day weekend, I tripped on some bad concrete and fell against my wife's SUV (side rail)=felt my upper arm break and I was wedged between it and the curb. Had an ambulance take me to ER=3 fractures. Fell again the next morning and landed on the bad arm. Back to ER (they had not put a cast on it)==One week waiting for reduction, 2+ weeks bed-ridden. Total of 3 months severely restricted activity, month and a half of P/T==out of work for 4 months, then furloughed after a month of work. Sixth fracture since I turned 60! (otherwise, only one at 18)-retirement as soon as we go back to work!
