Default shirt tucked or out poll

Since retiring I've devoted my time to the important issues of the day. For thirty five yrs. I wore a white shirt and tie. For the last ten years after, it was more casual on the job, with polos acceptable but always tucked. Now that I'm retired for the last year as a matter of habit the shirt goes in the pants. With summer weather here I'd like to continue carrying my Det. Spec.. It's a whole lot easier with the shirt out covering it. What do you prefer off the job. In or out?

P.S. I need a holster (belt slide) to keep the DS hammer out of my gut. Any ideas?

I HATE untucked shirts.

I only carry in a pocket holster or IWB. I started out with Don Hume 715s. The Humes aren't technically "tuckable", but you can do it more or less. I started making my own tuckable IWBs. Now when I carry IWB, it's with one of my holsters and a tucked polo shirt.

Wore dress shirts and ties while at work, but not since I've retired, except for funerals.
I wear suspenders, so I always wear a T-shirt which is tucked in, but the outer shirt (if worn) isn't tucked.
I IWB a 637 at the 4 o'clock position when I wear an outer shirt and pocket carry a Tomcat when I don't.

I dressed much like you. Dress shirt and tie every day except casual Friday. On Friday we could wear a collared shirt (Polo) but tucked in.

Living in Florida, off work there is no dress code. People dress like slobs to go out to eat, movies whatever.

I used to tuck in my Polos but now wear them out with nice shorts, My fashion Queens, Wife and Offspring say it's OK.

Default shirt tucked or out

Before we even get to this issue we must first decide whether or not we are wearing pants on a particular date.

Depends on the shirt. Short sleeved as in sports, Hawaiian, Polo, Golf or tee and its usually out. Long sleeve dress or flannel are tucked in.

Your poll doesnt have "both" or Depends". I bet most here do both. My situation is complicated because I wear suspenders most of the time. That means untucked but also means I can get in serious trouble if I am raceing for the bathroom! I have to unbutton the shirt the shirt and take it off. Old age hurts in at least two ways! That is why I have become a fancier of dehorned J frames in pocket carry. I didnt vote.

My neighbors decided this issue for me. They had a town meeting similar to the get together to drive Frankenstein from the village. They marched on my house with rakes and scythes flailing. At first I thought they were friendly townsfolk here to do my lawn work. BUT NO. The multitude was chanting "pants on - blinds closed". I did capitulate. But burn marks are still visible from the torches.

If I am carrying it is out (which is most of the time) if not it is in.

Sometimes I will carry mexican style when it is tucked in and I have discovered that for the most part with just the butt showing it is rarely if ever noticed; or at least if it is no one has ever said anything.

After 30 years of enforced dress codes, I feel sloppy if my shirt, no matter what the style, is not tucked in. Only exception is car washing and yard work.

Since I lost quite a bit of weight several years ago I like the shirt tucked in. Used to use a Belly Band, but now I've found a holster that I just love. It's the Kramer Confidant undershirt holster. I have it on now with a Glock 27 under my left arm and a spare 15 round magazine under my right. It is TOTALLY comfortable. I just have to leave the top two buttons open on a button up shirt or a polo. It's not a quick draw rig but it's faster than you might think. The holster will also hold a J-Frame very nicely.
When I'm wearing a suit I leave one button about halfway down open behind my tie. This thing has become my main carry rig in warm weather.

I voted "out" because here in AZ if I'm out of the house I'm almost always carrying (even more so since being laid off.) However, when I used to go back to Ohio to visit my parents, I would generally tuck my shirts in then, except for Hawaiian shirts, etc.

Depends on where I am, what I'm doing and what I'm carrying.

Hah! Feral sure stepped into that one!

The question was grossly unfair and I didn't respond to the poll. I vote with Feral and Caje. Today mine's untucked, and for no other reason than its about 90 outside with the humidity about the same. Even that part doesn't matter because I'm inside with the AC cranking away.

In the winter, its always tucked in because I've also got a long sleeve shirt on, too. It might or might not be tucked in, just depending on how cold its getting. I don't like cold drafts hitting bare middle skin. My choice.

I still have ties. Someplace. And I have absolutely no intention of wearing one unless there's a really good reason. Not a good reason to my wife, but a good reason to me. That equates to "almost never." Yes, I dress like a slob, and I'm proud of that fact. I have little or no financial reason to dress to impress anyone. Major financial issues are about all that would make me dress otherwise. I have no work, I'm not looking for work, and there is just about no one I want to impress.

The answer is which day is it, what's the weather going to be, and how do I feel that instant.

In my opinion the poll question cannot cover all situations. My answer is "depends on where I am going that day". Lately the temp has been in the 90s. So if I'm going to stick around the neighborhood, it will be a t-shirt tucked in. If I plan to go out in public, then I'll wear a short-sleeved shirt over the t-shirt. It will be worn outside the belt if it has an elastic bottom, but tucked in if it doesn't.

I grew up taught to tuck my shirt in, wear a belt and keep my hair combed. As I aged my waist size went up, my belt slipped down and my hair fell out. Given a bell bottom waist now, I still start the day with my shirt tucked in and generally end it with the shirt somewhat in place. T-shirts and Hawaiian shirts go outside of the pants/belt.

If it is a dress shirt it is tucked in. Polo's, Hawaiian, and tees are open.

I always tuck in most of my shirts. I am more comfortable that way. If I need to cover a gun and the weather allows, I wear another shirt (untucked) over it. Or I wear a vest over it. I think my overall appearance does not add up to a conclusion that I am carrying a gun. Leastways, I've never seen any evidence that it does.

The social pressure to wear pants has put me off dating...

Here in the blazing hot desert, untucked, square-hemmed shirts are not regarded as "too" casual in most situations, and are what I favor most of the year. In Cuba, and I think elsewhere in Latin America tropics, the guayabera, a usually pleated, perhaps embroidered, square-hemmed shirt, worn untucked, serves as suitably formal attire for business wear and such. Conventions vary, I guess, but in this part of the world, an untucked shirt is not considered slovenly dress, per se.

I prefer tucked, but as between untucked and wearing a jacket in the heat, untucked regularly wins out, even at work. Especially on trousers that don't quite get the job done with a pocket holster.

That's an interesting concept, suspenders over a tucked t-shirt and then an untucked shirt... Never occurred to me. I do think suspenders are a great idea for comfort with an N-frame. I like those Perry's.

I have been carrying with a Hide-It Holster (formerly Pager Pal and Cell Pal). It allows you to carry with a tucked in shirt, and no extra garments. Heck, you don't even need to wear a shirt.
Living in South Florida it can be difficult to conceal a gun the way we dress all year long. This holster does it for me. I carry my AMT 45 Backup or my S&W 649 in mine . I got the holster at Concealment Concepts - Concealed Carry Holsters - Hide-It Holster

I wear Hawaiian mostly, and those must be un-tucked. Same with tanks and tees. I choose my clothing to fit my concealed carry preferences.

I tuck in polos and t-shirts and pocket carry. If I carry IWB I wear a straight bottom shirt and leave it out. Can't remember the last time I needed a jacket.

I can see I should have added "heels or flats" to the poll.

Needs a BOTH category as it just depends upon seasons and dress.

I never wear anything but square-bottomed bowling-type shirts. Loose, very comfortable and all are made by my wife. Have not worn a store-bought shirt for years. So, it is always OUT for me......pocket-carry or Don Hume IWB.

If the shirt isn't cut to be worn untucked, I don't do it. But, here in Indiana, where it seems a majority have no problem dressing like bums, you'll fit right in, if that's your choice.

Sleeveless shirts and short pants are much more of a hazard to one's digestion than the untucked shirt. Anyone wearing that stuff into a restaurant should be seated in the kiddie-section, except it would be a bad influence on the children. Maybe they could sit on the curb and eat.

Add to that guys or women with big, stinking, ugly feet, no socks in sandals. Cute little feet on cute little women are just fine though.

Tucked in when I worked, tucked out now, since I have more to cover up.

In hot and humid Houston I wear a lot of shirts untucked. When I play golf they come untucked.
I generally wear a t-shirt with shirts.
I have always carried a gun just stuck in my pants---a light jacket or long sleeved shirt--even summer-- works for me.
Suit and tie for 40 years--weapon in the pants somewhere.
Blessings

I would add to this that your proximity to A/C can be a factor on if you are a super sweaty guy or not. Here in Florida if you are outside very much you are going to fill your shirt with sweat. Tucked in is just more insulation for us here. I agree that you look much more professional with your shirt tucked in but you don’t look very smart if you are drowning in your own sweat. Factor into that if your shirt is getting soaked with sweat you are much more likely to print. So I can’t vote since this issue is way too situational for me.

I can remember my dad in the 50's. He was a proponent of "off with pants" during the summer. My mother gave up on him. It was pre home air conditioning, and I guess I don't blame him. My mother ironed everything. She ironed his boxers flat from the front. I think she done it a purpose. Dad had some skinny stick legs, and those boxers stuck out like jodhpurs on the sides. T shirt, and sandal house slippers, can of Schlitz, completed the picture. He was a good guy, but to this day I can't where short pants, much less go around in my underwear. Neighbors agree wholeheartedly.

When carrying concealed I go untucked. I don't want or need the tucked in shirt snagging me up.
