South Georgia BBQ Joints
Are there any BBQ joints anyone would recommend between Columbus and Tifton? I will be driving through that area next Tuesday and will be in the vicinity about lunch time. Thanks!

Try Memphis sometimes, there is no such thing as a bad bar-b-que joint in that town!

There is one north of Macon on US-129 about five or ten miles on the side of the road that is really good, and worth going that far out of the way. I think it was featured on Mike Roe's dirty jobs awhile back (they showed how they clean out the smoker). I can't remember the name of it- but it is gooood!

If you see a roadside stand selling BBQ then you may see me standing there eating some. I keep an old towel in the back seat for just such occasions.

Actually there is a bad one - it's a franchise outfit out of Birmingham. I live in Memphis. Just wanted to try some others while I was on the road.

There isn't a whole lot of anything between Columbus and Tifton. There are a couple of good BBQ joints in Columbus. My current favorite is Macon Road BBQ. I have eaten there two or three times in the last six or eight months. I ate there one Saturday last October just a few minutes after I traded into a very nice early post-war M&P. I had a gun I was asking $675 for, and I allowed $125 for the M&P, in the original box. The BBQ was exceptionally good that day. Their Brunswick Stew is very passable, also. Get the sweet ice tea with lemon. It has been a long time since I ate at Cusseta Road BBQ, but it used to be another good one. Macon Road BBQ probably wouldn't be too far out of the way, at least time-wise.
If you happen to be in the area on July 4th, you can just drive about 45 miles east of Columbus to my house and get some of the finest BBQ anywhere. It is cooked in an old diesel tank converted to a grill. I feed about 40-50 folks every 4th, and anyone who happens to show up is welcome.

In Macon back in the 40's there was "The Pig and Whistle."
I have no idea if it is even there anymore but it was good back then.

Burt, a new BBQ joint opened in Galax this winter. Their ribs are even better than the ones at the Smokehouse. Come on by and I'll take you out to eat.

Tip-
Just make sure the joint is in a greasy, decrepit ol' buildin' with faded signs.
Ain't no way a BAD barbecue joint will last long enough in south Georgia to look like that!

I don't remember the name, but there's one just like that in Stateboro Ga. Always went there when visiting my grandparents. It was still there in 1997 when I retired out of the US Army.
