Default I don't post many movie reviews.

We all like something different and I rarely feel like inflicting my opinions of movies on others. But I just got blown out of my recliner by a movie that came as a total surprise.

One of the good things about netflix is that you can order movies that you might not really be all that interested in and get a terrific surprise. So many time the movies we order turn out to be a disappointment that is is nice when we get a surprise like this.

This happened to me tonight. One of my favorite types of movies is an action packed "get even" movie. Charles Bronson's Mr. Majestic, Tom Seleck's "An Innocent Man", Liam Neeson's "Taken, etc. Tonight I watched what may well be my favorite "get even" movie of all time. If there's one I like better I can't think of it just now.

Columbiana.

I don't know any of the actors but the acting and directing and screenwriting and production were all top notch. The action was steady and the main character is absolutely relentless in her search for revenge. Some of the bits are very original and creative and at the end there is a fight scene that blows away anything I can think of at the moment. The final fight scene in Mel Gibson's Lethal Weapon IV is about as close to second place as I can think of at the moment. The fight scene in the diner in Rock Hudson's Giant is good but not even close to this. I've been watching violent movies a long time and I don't remember the last time one wore me out like this one did.

And to top it all off, as the credits were rolling they played Johnny Cash's version of "Hurt". If I didn't know better I'd think that the lyrics to that song were were written about the main character in this movie. And Cash's emotional and dramatic version of the song just gave it and the movie a lot of power.

I'll be watching this one again soon. It could even get to be one of movies I watch often.
