Default If you liked "Red Dawn" and "Jericho" - "Falling Skies" starts Sunday

I'd missed all the promos for this show until the other day. I never watch anything on TNT (not since the demise of WCW anyway) and thus didn't know a thing about it.

Apparently the show has Will Patton, Dale Dye (military advisor on many a film) and the one guy that used to be on ER. It takes place six months into an alien invasion and has regular citizens (who looked well armed) serving as what amounts to a citizen militia to resist the aliens. Apparently after the defeat of conventional military forces "mommys and daddys had to fight" according to a child's voice over and crayon drawings in the preview.

AKs, ARs, an UZI and an M2 .50 caliber can be seen in citizen hands in the previews to be found on Youtube. If nothing else, it's an interesting departure from how private ownership of weapon's was usually portrayed on TV in the past. Looks sort of like Mel Gibson's "Patriot" movie, but with slimy green aliens instead of nefarious Red Coats prowling about.

Anyway, it is airing on TNT and starts with a two hour opener this Sunday. Something to watch until The Walking Dead comes back on...

I hope it turns out to be watchable. Noah Wylie did a good job in the more light hearted role as The Librarian. WE'll see if he can handle something a little weightier.

i do believe that i read this show is already signed for a 3rd season. season2 started slow, but the last few episodes have really stepped up the game.

Meh, it's OK when there's nothing else on.
My gripe is that the one guy needs to put a leash on his kids.
Every other episode revolves around him trying to track them down and save them after they ran off (again).

I've actually found that tonight is the beginning of season 2.

Project Free TV has season one that you can watch for free...

Project Free TV :: Falling Skies :: Season 1

I'm gonna give it a try based upon your recommendation Christopher...

not really. there have only been two episodes where he has had to hunt down and save his kids. the one this season where his youngest was trying to help a group of kids from a camp and was caught by the skitters. it gave insight into how the kids where harnessed and what the harness was. much needed.

and the other episode was in the first season when his oldest son hal, found his middle son in a group of harnessed kids. they had known he had been captured and harnessed. they were able to unharness him, which is very important to the story line since he was the 2nd kid to be unharnessed successfully.

season 2 started in june i believe, and there is only 2 or 3 more episodes left this season. and it has def. been renewed for season 3.

rick and lori grimes on the talking dead lose their son carl way more than tom from falling skies loses his 3 kids...

where's carl?

I'll probably watch the "Hell on Wheels" premier tonight in the same time slot. I'll catch "Falling Skies" on On Demand later this week.

I like the concept but is so far fetched it is hard to watch. Apparently there are few people left in the world. Once there were over 4 billion, now only thousands in the US. Yet there seems to be shortages? The vechiles are old and decrepid, always out of gas, food and medicine. If there was enough supplies for over 300 million people before the invasion, what happened to all the supplies? There would be millions of new cars, motorcycle, ATV's, trucks, for the taking. Every gas station would have gas. Every kind of guns and military grade weapons available for the taking. Every house and hospital would be full of medicine along with pharmacies, big box stores to name just a few. There would be an abundance of food as every house would have some as well as the stores. Cattle. pigs, chickens would be everywhere. There was an episode in which a compass was highly prized. Think of how many sportings goods stores would have cases of these. The show has some good point but I just cant swallow the entire lack of supplies.

the show takes place months after the initial invasion. what hasn't already been looted or pillaged has either been destroyed in the fighting or is "staked out" by the aliens. the opening scene in the first episode is a group of survivors being chased by aliens while returning from a food run. of course most of the food is destroyed and left behind as the survivors are seriously outgunned. it is not so far fetched to believe that months into an invasion, such supplies would be hard to find, whether it be from survivors hoarding them or consumption.

as far as the compass goes, it was a sentimental value to it as the leader(capt weaver) gave it to the young man(13ish i believe) because he was a good fighter, but not so good with directions. the boy was almost like a son to the capt weaver. when the boy was killed trying to kill a couple of the aliens, one of the rogue soldiers took the compass from the boy. the 2nd in commands son, who had been harnessed planned on giving the compass back to the leader. the 2nd in command fought with the rogue soldier, not over the compass, but to show who was boss, with the compass being "the straw that broke the camels back". the compass was eventually returned to the capt.

Have to respectfully disagree with SPEEDQUAD. Deer, elk, antelope, cattle, and sheep will double their population every 4 years. Pig will double their population yearly. There would be an abundance of dogs and cats with no neutering or ownership. I have a hard time believing that every house in the world has been destroyed or is being watched. Doing a population estimate of the show, and relating it to where I live, there would only be 1 person left in my county. The greatest problem I believe would be getting fat and lazy. No work, no houses to upkeep. We have 19 gas stations in our county, each having 4 10,000 gallons tanks, so fuel would be no problem. There are 3 propane buisnesses in our county so no shortage of heat or hot water. We have at anytime @1500 head of livestock in the county as well. All rivers and streams will be running clean within months of sewer plant closures..If the aliens blew up every house and building, destroyed every new car, and destroyed all crops and shot all livestock, they should have shot them while they we reloading.. Glad we wont have to actually find out which one of us would be more accurate.

you also have to remember that the aliens are still there and they need to defend themselves. it is a tv show and a little artistic license needs to be given. you have already given in to the fact that aliens have invaded, is it that far of a stretch to say that food sources are hard to come by due to the invasion? we have never been invaded by alines on such a large scale9that we know of...lol). how do you know that they have not destroyed all of the livestock. the fuel would most likely still be in the tanks, but how do you get it out with all the electricity plants being destroyed? the aliens have said they have studied our planet for centuries, they know our what will cripple us. how do you shoot something when it is reloading if it does not have to reload and has armor that our conventional bullets cannot penetrate? imagination goes along way. the fact that we cannot say for sure what an alien invasion would be like, including what weapons they may have or what supplies they may target is part of the allure of such a show. i enjoy it. i allow for some some inconsistencies because we do not/cannot know what would truly happen. if you don't like this kind of show because it is not 100% accurate, don't watch it. it's as simple as that. i enjoy letting my mind wander, in enjoy seeing what kind of things others can come up with to challenge the human race. it may make me a better survivor should it ever happen. and yes, i think that someone in the vast universe, there has to be another intelligent species, at least every bit as developed as humans. probably more.

you also have to remember that most houses have already been looted. i've seen looters first hand(tornado survivor in 85), it don't take long for the good stuff to disappear. people are hiding and hoarding. there would def. be a "i've found it, it's mine, get the hell out of here" attitude. if you can even find the other survivors hiding places.

also remember that the aliens have flying patrols that can spot large heat signatures such as those given off by motors. again, a stretch, but not so far outside the realm of possibility that it cannot be bought into.
