The FBI don't give up once you're on "the list". Not until you're in jail or they see the body. It could be argued that he "beat the system" making it to 81 with 16 years of additional "freedom", but living looking over your shoulder has to a wearing life.

I think that's the norm for those guys. An occupational hazard of the job, being a mobster.

How is that relevant ? The whole idea of camouflage is not that it "hides" something, but that it fools the eye into seeing what it expects to see. "Hiding in plain sight" is nothing new. If you act like you're supposed to be there, no one gives you a second look. And if by that statement you mean he wasn't exactly living in squalor in a remote area, a crowd is a good place to hide.

Whitey in Watts ---
Been there - Done that. (Broken fan belt)
That was not too long after they tried to burn the place to the ground. I assure you, I was looking over MY shoulder.
Maybe things have changed there and now it's just as nice as Santa Monica

Wasn't he a leader of the gang and also an informant for the FBI? If so, that's like FDR using Hitler as an informant to get Rommel. Weird.

He will get better elder care in prison than the average law abiding US citizen.

Took less time to find Osama so the feds could have skipped the self-congratulatory press conference.

I suspect that like Osama, he was set up. They should lock him in a room
with some of his associates who took the fall for him while he lived as a free man.

Yep, but he had 60 guns and $800,000 in cash.
Not many of us have that type money laying around.
He will now get free room & board medical treatment and other benefits instead of paying $1200 in rent.

Seriously, I'm looking forward to this "show." (I can't stand one more minute of sunup-to-sundown Casey coverage). I'm sure he has much to say; Quote:
"If he starts to talk, there will be some unwelcome accountability on the part of a lot of people inside law enforcement," said retired Massachusetts state police Maj. Tom Duffy. "Let me put it this way: I wouldn't want my pension contingent on what he will say at this point." Joe

Was any of those 60 guns Smith and Wessons?
Any "Collectables"?
Perhaps a "RM"?

Honest to God, I am surprised anybody wanted him caught. Mass does not have the death penalty so the worst that can happen if he'll spend a few years in jail until he dies and I bet he is going to have a lot to say about lots of stuff people would rather not hear. The guy was a high level informant and I bet he has got dirt on a lot of well connected people in law enforcement. This is going to be interesting.

I know we're all supposed to dutifully congratulate the FEEB for a job well-done.
But I gotta ask: Why did it take 16 years to think of the adverts? I wonder if it'll occur to them to use it for others on the top ten? Maybe they'll wait 16 yrs. for each wanted felon.

So whats the deal? Did he go on the federal witness program that they hid him so well they lost him or did he double cross them and move without informing his handler? And whats with some retired agent friend tipping him off? Can they prove that or is it just someones speculation? He`s 81. Just how much differance in his life will this make at this late date anyway?

You wouldn't imply that the Feds have have not been absolutely transparent in this case? Giving this as little thought as possible, I would bet he "expires" before he can say anything meaningful, after getting some of that "great jailhouse healthcare." Joe

I saw this news on T.V. that one of the most wanted criminal named James Bulger was caught after years of hiding. In the news, they also mentioned that a person of the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Most Wanted List was removed from the list as he was caught. For more than 16 years, the FBI was right after James “Whitey” Bulger, a notorious crime boss from Boston who was caught recently in Santa Monica. Here is the proof: Notorious fugitive James Bulger arrested by FBI in Santa Monica
