I am not surprised. This sort of stuff has been going on for decades. At least one man had the guts to blow the whistle. Question is, is anybody going to do anything about govt criminal acts?

I will not comment on this disgusting turn of events, for fear that I may deviate from the true and given course of rectitude, which is not to get political on this forum.

If this operation was started during this administration, I think they did it in order to justify signing the UN small arms treaty.

No, not much. Just lots of smoke and noise and maybe a goat or two thrown off the cliff, but for the most part things will continue as usual with ATF.

Not a chance. Holder's body, and that of numerous others no doubt, would be flung under several buses before that happened.

You took the words out of my mouth. I couldn't agree more.
We are about to get a huge attack on our 2nd Amendment if this administration gets re elected, the likes of which we have never yet seen.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobaco and Firearms would have done better
if it was a locked cabinet behind the counter at a convenience store.

I seem to remember something about a merger of the ATF and the FBI and it ended with a comment something to the effect of, "If you add dirty water to clean water then all you end up with is a lot of dirty water..." My quote may be off but it's close enough to make the same point that was made years ago.

Seeing the intense investigative journalism coverage given this story by the main stream press I predict nothing will come of the scandal. Don’t forget, we now have Chicago style politics on the National level. This wouldn’t make the back page in Chicago.

Fortunately, this country isn't Apartheid Chicago quite yet.
This is the sort of thing that CAN'T be suppressed, at least not if the Republicans doing the investigation don't WANT it to. If there's no special prosecutor, SOON, the people running the investigation(s) should resign and just walk into a river like Chance the Gardener in "Being Their".
The liberal media (and I'm a liberal) might WANT to ignore this story, but when they smell blood in the water, they're like Humboldt squid. Anything that looks weak or wounded gets attacked and torn to shreds.
Right about now, Eric Holder is starting to look like a Humboldt squid stuck on a jig. If Issa and company don't somehow let him off, the other squid in the media are going to start flashing red and white. Before it's all done, he'll be nothing but torn gobbets of flesh.
The question is whether Holder is willing to get eaten rather than point at the biggest squid of all.

The real question is whether this will get the full media attention it deserves. My guess is no as it doesn't fit the agenda.

The whole thing in a nutshell is that this administration was trying to manufacture a set of circumstances to substantiate their bogus claims that 90% of the guns in Mexico come from the US. They got caught, it cost lives and now it's more of the usual lie, lie, lie some more and then try to deflect and when that proves to be inadequate they'll try to demonize the whistle blower as a disgruntled employee. Oh wait they have already done that, they already fired the ATF agent that brought this to the media's attention. The reason for firing him get this, he was in opposition to an illegal wire tap and blew the whistle on that.

Just watched this great flick and Chance most certainly did not walk into the river! He was walking on water when the movie ends. There is no one in Washington that will be able to do that no matter how highly they think of themselves

Actually, the movie this brought to mind for me was Wag the Dog.

This whole thing was BLATANTLY obviously a Reichstag fire in search of an "enabling act" for gun control... and maybe more.
The Republicans need to not let up for one SECOND.

This was true until the 2008 campaign and election.
If I said any more, it would probably be censored for getting too political.

The funding for this operation was included in the TARP and through the DOJ's budget. This operation was known at the highest levels. Let's watch and see if they can sweep this under the rug.

Unfortunately, I see this going nowhere, especially by the news media.
How can this compare to the 4 years of media harassment of the previous AG for the firing of several DAs?

You are absolutely right.
Firing political appoimtees is certainly an impeachable offense.
Selling guns to Mexican drug lords pales in comparison.
