Anyone know what the Black finish on SW stainless guns is called?
It is used on Models such as the PC M- 327, some alloyJ frames and 1911's.
It's not bluing, it is like a epoxy or black oxide coating with a clear coat. Powder coat?? I have heard Black Magic or something like that?
How is it applied? Sprayed, electrolysis, baked??

I think they call it Melonite on my PC1911. No clue as to how it's applied.

I am not so sure it's the same as Melonite used on slides. It looks and feels more like the coatings CZ uses on their guns. The Melonites, Tenifer etc are different (I believe)

On most alloy frames (colored) I believe it's anodizing. Anodize can be most any color, is harder than the underlying metal, & relatively durable. It is an "electroplating" process.

its GSR
its not all that durable so you must refinish it often. The process is good fun however.

Well, direct from the SW Customer Support Center. it is called "Black Magic" It is a proprietary paint like finish. It is not the same as the Melonite on the semi autos.
Whatever it is, I do not like it as far as durability. I wish it was Melonite.
The stainless cylinder has a PVD coating. This link has more info then anyone could want.
What are PVD coatings?
