Oh those were cool! I have a french singing bird in cage that sounds like the real deal. I picked it up years ago.

Any idea what produces the sound? The bird calls sound fairly realistic --- not the tinny plucked tine sounds of a music box ... It's hard to imagine having the sort of disposal income necessary to indulge oneself in these novel but useless trinkets, unless, I suppose, you were royalty, and could levy taxes without representation or rendering any services...

I finally took part of mine apart to clean it about a month ago. There are bellows inside and gears and what not. My bird sings and moves about for almost 5 minutes! I need to video it and post a link.
