Default Trigger Finger

I mean the condition. I have trigger finger in two fingers on my right hand; the ring finger and my actual "trigger finger." I have had a couple of cortisone shots over the last three years, and my Doc says he won't give the shots but three times. He says the surgery will relieve the condition and the pain. The shots hurt like rip, but they offer some temporary relief, usually a few months, then the condition returns. As you can imagine, it makes shooting sort of tough. I have lever action rifles that are particularly painful to cycle because of the soreness and inflammation. I have about decided to go ahead and schedule surgery.

Any of y'all ever had the surgery? Scroll down the page on the first link. My fingers lock just like those in the video.

I had that condition on my left hand (thankfully, as I am right handed) on the index or "trigger" finger. I was advised that surgery was probably the only sure cure.

But, again thankfully, after about two years, it just "went away." My doctor was surprised but said that was not unknown.

If it had been my right hand, I would have done the surgery since, without it, I couldn't have continued to shoot.

They are doing all kinds of cool things now. My friend and my Chiropractor both had the joints of their thumbs replaced because of arthritis. Worked out perfectly for them. I'm "thinking" about it.

I had the surgery on my right ring finger. Immediate relief and no further problems.

I had it on my ring finger, left hand. Had the surgery and it's never come back. Had a half inch incision and four stitches.

Had the problem with my right thumb. Would bend over backwards and hurt like @@#%#$%&!!!.

Had surgery and back to normal, no problems.

Get an experienced Orthopedic Surgeon, and it is a half hour O/P procedure.

I have the locking finger on the index finger of my left hand and it bothers me mostly after waking up in the mornings.

However, I have actual trigger finger problem on my right hand. Due to the amount of shooting I do, I have developed a large callous at the first joint of the finger. Not painful but I will occasionally take a nail file to it.

Yep, I've had it and had multiple injections, and multiple surgeries to trigger fingers on both hands. Absolutely miserable, but well worth the aggravation and pain of the surgical repair. Two things I learned through my experiences: 1) find a very experienced hand surgeon to do the repair. Their are hand surgeons who are also plastic surgeons, and they do work on hands, unlike hand surgeons who only work on hands. 2) You'll recover faster and better with post-op care from an OT - Occupational Therapist. Some doctors will mention OTs in passing, and offer you their services almost as an afterthought. You definitely want to use one after your surgery as they have special education and tools to help you get better faster.

Best of luck,

Dave

My wife has had two surgeries for this and both came out good. Good luck with yours.

Had the surgery Friday. The most painful part so far was the two shots of novocaine, or whatever they use to numb it, in the palm of my hand. While the Doc was cutting, I remarked, "I guess this knocks me out of opening day of dove season."

"Oh no. You should be able to shoot a shotgun in two or three weeks" he told me. That was good news. We spent a few minutes talking about shooting doves in South America, which I haven't done, but he has. Just to let him know he didn't have a thing on me, I told him about hunting wild quail with good dogs in South GA "back in the day."

I had the ring finger and index finger on my right hand done. Hopefully, this will relieve some of the pain and inflammation so I can shoot my revolvers and lever actions without so much pain.

I was going to encourage you to have the surgery, too late. My recovery was no longer than what would be expected from any other minor cut.

When it just popped it was kind of novel, but when it got to the point I had to straighten the finger with the other hand it ceased to be. This was my left ring finger. Another has been developing on the left index finger, but just enough to realize it is catching a little, and the right ring finger will lock now. I noticed these just after the first surgery, they were'nt apparent until got the first one fixed, then I could recognize it.

I wish you well. Really I am amazed you still have issues with pain two days later. In a few days you probably won't even know there had been a problem, except for memories.
