Default Finally had a date night...

Wife and I went to Mastro's steak house in Beverly Hills last night...split a NY with creamed spinach, mushrooms and garlic mashed potatoes....great meal...a block from the restaurant, a cat ran out in front of my car....sadly, he didn't make it...wound up going to BHPD to report it...front door of station locked...tried intercom.... nothing...finally a uniform comes out and he tell him what happened and he was like, why you telling me?...told him it's BH...figured it was someone's pet and I didn't want to leave it in the road and that maybe he could call animal control to have it removed. He said he would..not sure, maybe he did, maybe he went back to sleep. Wife was pretty sad....now I have to take her out again...

Sad way to end a date night, Sip, but you did the right thing. It may have been "just a cat" but it probably was someone's companion and a bona fide member of a family. Good on ya, mate.

Well that was certainly a mood killer-I'd be pretty upset too if I had spent all that money for a nice dinner and then blew it by killing a cat on the way home for "coffee"

I think you did the right thing; at least the cat can rest in peace... and your wife gets another date! Just confirms one of my favorite sayings: "No good deed goes unpunished."

This isn't connected to the "Cat Found" thread, is it...?

With your posts, I have to be on the alert to a sudden turn in the story.

I'm sure the wife doesn't feel like you ruined date night, but I'm also sure she wouldn't mind another one soon...

It is my understanding that you must call 24 hours prior and make an appointment with the Beverly Hills Police to report a crime or if you are going to be a victim. To report running over a cat I think 48 hours before is required.

And that's just one of the reasons our cats stay in the house !
Besides cars, there's always coyotes, racoons, possums, skunks, dogs ..........the list goes on. Not to mention what they can do to the bird population.

Default Cat Business Proposition

Sip....You must have gotten him on his ninth life. Oh well.

For those of you interested in investing, read below:

Dear Forum Friends:

I don’t know if you will be interested in this, but I thought I would mention it to you because it could be a real “sleeper” in making a lot of money with a small investment.

A group of us in Florida are considering investing in a large cat ranch near Hermosillo, Mexico. It is our purpose to start rather small with about one million cats. Each cat averages about 12 kittens a year. Skins can be sold for about 20 cents for the white ones and up to 40 cents for the black ones. This will give us 12 million skins per year to sell at an average of 32 cents per skin, making our gross revenue about $3 million a year. This really averages out to about $10,000 per day-----exclusive of Sundays and holidays.

A good Mexican cat man can skin about 50 cats per day at a wage of $3.15 a day. It will take only 663 men to operate the ranch, so the net profit would be over $8,200 per day.

Now the cats would be fed on rats exclusively. Rats multiply four times as fast as cats.
We would start a rat ranch adjacent to our cat ranch. If we start with a million rats, we will have four rats per cat each day. The rats will be fed on the carcasses of the cats that we skin. This will give each rat a quarter of a cat each day. You can see by this that the business is a real clean operation. It is self supporting and really automatic throughout. The cats will eat the rats, and the rats will eat the cats, and we get the skins.

Let me know if you are interested. As you can imagine, we are rather particular whom we want to get into this and want the fewest investors possible.

West of the Mississippi cats should 'prolly stay indoors... In fact in several western states don't let anything under about 50 pounds stay unattended, animal or human!!!

I live against a wash in the Sonoran desert, and I see every day first-hand how humans are about number two or three (depending on the human's size) on the food chain

Rattlers, scorpions, coyote, bobcat, and mountain lion. In Mesa, AZ a 4yo kid was dragged out of his garage by a coyote while his dad unloaded groceries. The dad beat the coyote until it let the kid go. Me? I would have stabbed him in the ribcage with my Ka-Bar....but anyway, in some western states ya just have to be careful.

My wife spotted a mountain lion, our neighbor saw 'em too. I haven't yet, but I keep looking to see if it's really a cougar or not ( our neighbor the cougar doesn't count)

Around here, 'tis the season to run over squirrels. Not on purpose, mind you. We have these little desert squirrels that look like chipmunks. This time of year, there a loads of them. They kind of act like prairie dogs, the way they stand on there hind legs and look around.

The problem is they are really stupid. They'll stand in the road until a car approaches, then start to run out of the way, then run back at the last second. One of my co-workers refers to them as "squishees." Hawks and turkey vultures call them "lunch."

The other day I'm coming home from work and there were about a dozen of them all flattened within about two feet of each other. It was like a squirrel Jonestown.
