Post Need info on SMALL point and shoot digital camera

I have any number of cameras, including a Nikon D90 DSLR with several lenses, BUT I am looking for a small "point and shoot" digital camera that I will not mind carrying with me at all times.

I want a good one, but not one designed for a pro. I have checked out the new Nikon, but it may be more than I want. I would love to have one that also will do close up shots.

Please let me know what you have and what you like or don't like.

Kodak at WalMart. There is always a Kodak digital on clearance sale. I have been very happy with my $95 Kodak camera.

As I was recently looking for a new digital camera it seemed to me that the Panasonic Lumix line got the best customer reviews on Amazon and other sites. For about 130 bucks I got a 14 megapixel Lumix with 8X optical zoom, autofocus and image stabilizer. It is compact and, best of all, Goobye Double-A's! It comes with a rechargeable battery and charger. It is quite compact but has a large view screen. There is no viewfinder but there is a macro mode for close-ups. The control menus are simple and operation is easy. Picture quality seems good so far. Previously I have used a Canon Powershot 7.1 Megapixel and it works just fine and takes good closeups but it eats AA's. Canons also get good reviews.

For several years I used a little Sony. About the size of a deck of cards, but thinner. Had a good telephoto and macro capability.

Default Canon PowerShot SD1400IS

Footprint smaller than a deck of cards, and only a hair over 5/8" thick. Small enough to carry in a shirt or pants pocket and fugetaboutit. Kinda like a 340PD :-)

Great picture quality too, like most Canon digital cameras I've used.

Under $200 at most places.

Why even mess with a camera, although any Nikon Coolpix seems get it done. Get a new cellphone and make the shopping criteria photo quality as number one. Some of the new ones take really impressive pics.

I picked up a Cannon A1100IS about a year ago. Will fit in a shirt pocket, 2" view screen, but also a coupled VIEWFINDER for when out in bright sun and can't see the screen. Close-up and Image Stabilization. 4X zoom. Takes 2 AA batteries, and battery like isn't the greatest. When traveling i stuck a 4 pk of AA's in my pocket and never had a problem. When you get the low battery signal you can still get another 20+ shots.

Try these places. You will have so much information and be so confused you will buy the first one you see at the store regardless

FWIW I just bought the Fuji FinePix XP10 as I wanted a waterproof, shockproof go anywhere camera.

I think all the basic lower priced cameras are all pretty good these days.

I just picked up an Olympus XZ-1 for work a couple months back and really like it. Small, solid, fast lens, takes great pics and shoots HD video. Not super cheap though (~$400), but I have been very impressed overall with it.
