Firearms insurance advice/question...
I would appreciate any input or opinions on this...when the value of a firearms collection exceeds what would be covered under a typical homeowners policy, it would seem to be obvious to obtain more specialized insurance. However, does anyone else feel uneasy about handing an insurance company the complete details and serial #'s of each and every gun you own? I like to have this information under my control. Do they store this on some server that is/could be a target of hacking? Just paranoid?

Better check your homeowner's policy. Some exclude firearms from coverage. Check with the NRA if you are a member as they will not require any information if you don't exceed $5,000. They also sell increased coverage but may require make, model and serial.

Just paranoid?
I was reading your post while wearing my tin foil hat and your post did not seem to be paranoid to me.

My firearms are covered by a seperate policy as my homeowners policy will only pay up to $1000 in the event of a firearm loss. Is it cheap? NO. Is it worth it? YES. I've never filed a claim for loss, but all I have to do is have a police report showing what, where and when. Do I worry about my info being stored on a computer some place that could be hacked and my collection being stolen? NO. That's why I have insurance.

My homeowners wanted a list of guns and serial numbers. I said "No Way!" The NRA covers up to a certain amount, and the NRA supplemental insurance that I carry does not require any identification of firearms. You just pay the amount of value that you want covered. You decide how much. It covers your firearms whether they are in your house, vehicle, or elswhere as long as they are locked up.

You must be kidding, right? My guns run into the high 5 figures. No insurance company is going to insure them without an inventory, and I don't want them to have that information. Beside, I probably couldn't afford the premium anyway.

NRA Insurance
First of all, I'm a NRA Life Member. I still would not recommend NRA insurance .
A friend of mine paid their premiums to them for years. Not long ago someone broke into the house and took safe, guns and all.
She talk to NRA and sent them a list of the guns. They (NRA) told her she would have to replace all of the guns first, and then they would remburse her money. She didn't have the money to replace the guns.
Her husband had died a few years ago and she didn't want anymore guns.
So... guess what? she lost all of her guns, safe, ammo and other items.
She has her checks were she paid the NRA for many years for their so called insurance.
She was not paid a penny from the NRA. Total loss.

Here's some free legal advice for your friends' widow. Get a copy of the policy where it contains such language (if it in fact does). Go see a lawyer with experience dealing with insuranct policy litigation. File a complaint with the state's insurance commishioner. Each state has laws regarding what may and may not be contained in insurance policies and something like this sounds like it may very well be prohibited by statute as against public policy. Also these laws lots of times provide for attorney fees for the siccessful complainant.
