Smiths at the Cody Museum
Went over to Cody yesterday so a 14 yr. old friend of the family who is interested in guns can see the firearms collection plus the other four museums there. There's much more than you can see in one day but he was quite impressed.
Not everyone goes down to the basement level where the "overflow" guns are, but it's a worthwhile visit. I noticed that they've expanded their sliding vertical panel/drawer cabinets. One section of the latter has a very nice selection of 20th century S&W hand ejectors; I'd guess around 50 or so. Most apparently came from one family, the name of which I didn't make a note of.
The main firearms collection on the main floor doesn't change much but I noticed that there were about seven original Hawken rifles on display from Bill Ruger's personal collection.
Good way to spend a day.

I took the wife and son there while on vacation, back in 1998. The Cody Museum was one of the highlights of our trip to the Teatons and Yellowstone. It is the largest gun collection we have ever seen, didn't know about the basement. I could have spent another day or two just to see everything. My son really enjoyed the Plains Indians Museum with the headdresses made from animals and human hair.
It is a wonderful education center that I hope to visit again someday.

It is an amazing place. A few years ago I spent 3 days in the museum and I was overwhelmed. I only remembered a small part of what I saw. Cody also has a nice skeet and sporting clays range plus rodeos at night and super nice people. I really enjoyed my visit. Larry

I was there about 5 years ago when they had the one-of-kind largest all Colt show in the basement. I needed a day just for that and spent two more there.

We made the same trip exactly ten years before you. I just could not believe the endless displays of guns and western stuff. Just to show the diversity, I really was knocked out by Doc Carver's fancy saddle, decorated with silver dollars with holes blown through them from his aireal shooting with a Winchester 73. And a wall of Henry rifles and Winchester sixshooters. Wow!

We recently got back from our second trip to Cody, better than the first one. Partially thanks to the hospitality of Wyo-Man of this forum. I think that Cody is going to become a regular thing. I joined the Buffalo Bill Historical Center to keep up with things and ,may volunteer there.

Me and Mrs monet have been seven times since the 80's. We never get tired of it and we love the rodeo too! If you have not had the good fortune to go, give it a shot. (Get it?)

I was there in 1968, as a 9 year old I was impressed with all those guns. Hope to return one day.

A favorite of mine. I do like the Western art section.
Like the Bighorn Sheep museum next door, small but very nice.
