Default My first competition!

Surfing the 'net on Sat evening, I see that there is a 22 pistol metal target competition the next morning at the shooting range on Usery Pass Rd (for those in the Phoenix valley)....hmm says I...

Well 7am is a little early for a guy who catches up on sleep on weekends...but what the heck!

I brought my new Ruger MK III Hunter, no optics. What a shooter!!

I'm not sure what the yardage was, it was pretty close, and we shot at these round metal targets that -spatted- the bullets really well and -pinged- really well, great visual and aural verification.

Five shots, in four different stages, each string timed.

What A Hoot!!

I showed up and introduced myself to a lady with an official looking event t-shirt and said " Hi my name's Erich, and I have no idea what I'm doing" After a good laugh she introduced me around, and before I knew it, I was helping take scores and running the timer. Talk about a welcoming crew and event!

An old timer gave me valuable tips, the RO's were super friendly, the range was fantastic (I could hear Class III weaponry-nice soundtrack!)

When I pulled up, I saw some pretty competitive looking rigs, and at first I was wondering if this was going to be an uber-competitive, mind-gaming event; nothing could be further from the truth. No egos; a really nice group of shooters of all ages, friendly and helpful range officers, and an easy course of fire for newbies to get their feet wet.

I can't wait to do it again.

That's just the way most shooters are. Glad you had a good time. Don
