He reminds me of the Flo-ride drinking water conspiracy followers of the 50's. If someone wants to know when I'm using my electric tooth brush, fine with me. Wait...I don't have one!
OTOH better to worry about spying from space. Look at what you can see on Google Earth for free, then consider what's out there that is not available to the public. Better use the heavy duty tin foil!

Reminds me of a call I got a few years ago from a guy who wanted me to investigate the people who were tapping into his brain waves and monitoring his thoughts. "Uh, Sir, that's not really my specialty, but I'm sure there's another PI in the book who could help you with that".
The scary part is, these people vote.

After watching, I went out and checked. I got a dumb meter, just tells how much to overcharge each month. Come to think of it, that's pretty smart. Joe

The "smart" meter allows the monopoly to get a rate increase w/o the benefit of hearings or approvals.
How you ask?
Time of day usage.
Before, all they had was what you used, now they know WHEN you use it.
Add to this, they can shut you down by remote control and they up their profits by not needing meter readers.
Win win. (sarcasm)

First rule of dealing with a major business like the power company. Anything they want to provide you is in their best interest. Smart meters can only benefit them, not you. Otherwise they would offer it as an option and you would have to pay for it.
The mere fact that they are putting it in at no initial costs to you tells you this is bad for you. It can only benefit them. Here in Texas they are charging us for the honor to put them in. They put them in and then raise your base rate to cover them. I will avoid them as long as I can.
