Angry Numrich Arms... Anti Gun????

Check this one out guys, especially fellow New York residents. I've been buying gunparts from Numrich for years. I found a rifle I wanted to buy on Gunbroker (I didn't know it was Numrich selling) they were located in N.Y but wouldn't sell to N.Y FFL's.

When I sent a message to them why they won't sell to a N.Y resident this was thier response:

Dear Sir,

We are aware that firearms can be shipped to NY. However, it is our
company policy not to transfer any FFL items to NY. This policy is not
based on any particular State regs; it is strictly our company policy.
We apologize for any inconvenience. If you have any questions, you can
call us at any of the numbers listed below between 8am to 4pm EST,
Monday to Friday.

Numrich Importing, LLC
Customer Service: 845-679-4867
Orders: 845-679-2417
Toll Free: 866-NUMRICH (866-686-7424)

My reply:

Dear Sirs,
Thank you for your quick reply. I didn't realize that you were connected with
Gunparts Corp. that I've been dealing with for over 25 years. I'm going to make
sure to let all my friends and gunsmithing colleauges know your position on
selling firearms to N.Y residents. I will also post my e-mails on every gun
forum possible.
Thanks again for your time and quick reply.

Just a theory , but perhaps the NY Bloomberg anti-gun gestapo demands info or records on any sales to NY residents , and that is the best way to fight such stupid laws. Sarco did the same thing prior to moving gun sales to their new store across the river in PA and Ammoman won't ship or sell to NJ residents , even though they are in NJ.

It's been my experience that there is little problem buying or selling guns in NY. I can't say the same for CA. One of our forumers, it may have been ROBBT, told me not to confuse NY state with the city. I cannot understand why Numerich has the policy. It may have something to do with some regs in NYC that I don't know about.

FYI as per my local dealer. Any dealer in NY or out of NY selling to someone in NY has to agree in writting to supply the state a complete copy of their bound book and 4473 if requested. My dealer did not like the idea of telling one state everything and they could then give the information away.

True enough! Same with Sarco. At least Sarco is a nice little 2hr motorcycle ride away. I can go pick my parts. Their new Easton gun store is only 1 hr.

If I need parts , I always try Bob's first. www.gun-parts.com

Maybe challenge on the commerce clause or on the 2nd as a defacto infirmgement on interstate commere/2nd amendment rights. (disclaimer-it's 10:22 Friday night, I'm on my third scotch and at present am the smartest man on the planet.)

I'd suggest buying parts somewhere else.

However, if it's the same parts for antiques that I'm buying, there isn't any other places other than Gun Parts Corp.

All joking aside, I started dealing with Jack First, and haven't looked back. Now, they don't have a website, but they are top notch and you aren't treated like a number, and they do make new parts and don't charge overcharge for them.

I wanted to get several of the new receiver extensions made for 1897 Winchesters, and Gun Parts Corp (numerich) was far too high. I found them somewhere else where I saved enough to buy three get one free.

Just a look at it from a different perspective, but it is a free country and companies that don't take federal subsidies can still make many of their own dicisions on how to conduct business. As part of that free market society, customers are free to shop where they like.

I have a business and there are certain areas in the country that I don't like doing business with. I prefer those customers go someplace else.

I suspect they are doing this in protest, same as Barret refusing to sell any rifles to California Law Enforcement. If that is the case IMO they should just pack up and move to a firearms friendly state.

Wish that S&W would do the same and would suggest Michigan as a new home. Fact is that lower Michigan currently has a huge surplus of very talented machinists looking for work and I have no doubt at all that Michigan would offer lots of incentives for them to make the move.

BTW, Union Machinists are now a thing of the past, people want work and don't care squat about whether a job is union or not.

I've been an 01FFL in NYS for 40yrs. Also have had a NYS Firearms Dealers (and Gunsmith) License which is needed here if you as an 01FFL also wish to deal in handguns or do gunsmithing work on them.

That NYS dealers lic requires a separate form to be filled out and sent to the NYSP with every handgun transaction (aquisition, disposition, gunsmithing). A separate bound book is also kept for the NYS handgun transactions.
I've been checked a total of once in all this time by the NYSP in a compliance check re:the NYS license.

Never have I seen anything that states anyone other than the NYS licensed dealer or gunsmith has to do this paperwork or send it in to NYSP.
Nothing about giving up a copy of the 4473 or either/both bound books to anyone other than L/E.

One quirk in the NYS pistol laws is that a Licenced Dealer or Gunsmith(NYS) cannot receive a handgun from out of state from anyone other than another FFL.
Fed law allows of course,,but a case of State law stepping in the way with their own reg.

Numrichs policy may be based more on politics than anything else.
Bending somewhat trying to stay in the good graces of local politicians.
They need their FFL to continue business but they also realize it could be easily gone if certain zoning, business, polution, security, etc standards aren't met. Those standards could easily be jacked up on them too,,especially w/EPA inspections.

They're not in NYC but are downstate enough to be heavily influenced by NYC. Their business over the years has been not only small arms parts, but also full auto (which is not available to NY residents BTW).

They may have been feeling the pinch of Bloombergs policys and rants and there may even be a quiet move to push Numrich out of the area.

Numrich used to be way out of the way in the Catskills.
But it's just accross the hill from the site of the original Woodstock concert. So alot of boomers consider the area sacred ground and are moving into some nice digs around there.
Many never left.
They get into the town, county and village politics and many have negative feelings about firearms.

Just some thoughts.

I suspect that this situation is similar to the one at Natchez Shooter's Supplies. They are located in Tennessee, but won't sell *anything* to residents of Tennessee, Georgia or Alabama. This is because they have received complaints from FFL dealers and sporting goods stores in those states because of their low prices undercutting the local sellers.

Numrich is in NY. If they sell to NY residents, they must collect sales tax. I would bet the extra hassle is the reason. Joe

I waited a week and received an email saying they had no parts and no leads from me! I live in NY....100 miles east of the city and hold a valid pistol permit .... where do I go for parts ? well, don't that take the rag right of'n the bush, 'cause I got good friends all over the north including NY, NH, Maine. All kinds of northern places. I kinda judge people by who they are as a person instead of where they are from.
And to tell you the truth I know some local folks that I'd probably sic the dogs on if they came around. They are that bad

I've heard that from some NYer's here, however both FFL's that I deal with receive guns from out of state with just a DL as ID. Both have been doing this for years.

Joe, I've ordered numerous times from Numrich, they collect sales tax just like Home Depot, Macy's or Walmart. Don't believe that's an issues as far as NY sales go.

If Smith and Wesson ever did move...my hope is that they would make their new home in the Lone Star State....but they would probably have to open a "factory store" near the plant (think Super-Mega-Wally-World sized)

Long gun yes,,handgun must come from another FFL if from out of state.

Handgun transaction must include a NYSP P-12 form with a copy to them.
On the form is a place for 1: NYS Pistol Permit #,or 2: NYS Dealer #,or 3: FFL #.
It (handgun) has to be received from one of those 3 sources.

With that said,,,I know of some that never sent any records in,,some sent some of the records in,,some are still using obsolete forms from 1990 and refuse to change.

What it really shows I guess is the state of confusion the NYS Pistol Permit Bureau is in and how far behind record keeping is.
Most of the state is still working with a simple folded paper permit with entrys typed on (who still has type writers in the office but the gov't).

That's kinda like Midway refusing to ship a 15 rd magazine to NJ even though it's legal.

Mike, when I order from Numrich there is no sales tax. It's that way for anyone out of state. Joe
