Location for selling a gun
I'm planning to advertise a few guns for sale on the forum. Can anyone tell me of a good place to go to conduct such a transaction? I don't want to do it at my home, and I certainly don't think it would work very well in the Wal-Mart parking lot.

Walmart parking lot has served me well for many face to face transactions with unknown people. If somthing goes awry, you could likely get someone's attention in hopes they'd call for help.

Are you friendly with the folks at your local bank? I've been able to use the conference room at mine for transactions.

Any well lit public parking lot with people in the area.
Wal-Mart or McDonalds is good.
Having a friend with you in the car while you deal from your car trunk is good.

I've never used a meeting room at my bank, but I've used the parking lot several times. If I'm buying I can use the ATM to get any money needed. If I'm selling the buyer can see me go inside and deposit the money right then. So no worries about meeting a stranger when cash is going to change hands. I also let the bank staff know what is going on ahead of time.

Once bought a IHC M-1. Fellow wanted to meet in the parking lot of Hooters!!! I've sold some items... had the buyer meet me in the Shoney's parking lot. Once was invited to a man's house to complete purchase of a revolver. All went fine. Prefer to meet at a very public place where I can size things up before stopping the car and getting out. JMHO.

All very good advice.I recently sold a NIB Colt 6920 to someone who responded to my ad on a local firearms forum. The advice about taking a friend is invaluable,an extra pair of eyes helps. We met at a local restaurant during daylight hours.Another good place I have used is your local gun club if you belong to one.The night the club shoots trap/pistol etc is good with many club members around.

Wouldn't the local police station be a good place?
Walk-in, make sure the gun is cased and tell the person behind the counter that you want to make a personal firearm transaction and you feel more comfortable doing it there. Let them inspect it if they ask. If the buyer has reservations going to the station then I wouldn't sell.

Sure, and maybe even fingerprint him too
Anyone who needs to go to the extent you mention; I don't need their gun. You don't get your pic taken and your car photographed to buy a gun from an FFL.
Sorry. Not for me and I have had every kind of background check imaginable so its not because I am scared of anything.
And if you are a seller and feel compelled to do all of that because you don't feel right about the buyer, find another buyer.

I would pick a location with a lot of people.
I would also go for a location that has external security cameras covering the area you would be.
A very good alternative would be a gun range. Bring a small amount of ammo ( 10 or less) shoot the gun, finish the deal.
It would be very hard to get away with anything with so many armed people around.
We don't have that luxury in CA.

I have used a gun range and the parking lots of both Bass Pro and Cabellas with no one even noticing!

Parking lots are used for all kinds of business transactions--from buying/selling drugs, guns, baby seats, and--even--cars.
I have even witnessed a man doing businesss out of a pick-up in a walmart lot.

I often use my own gun club as a place of transfer, both buying and selling and works well for me.

I used Papasitos once. Chick Fil-A another. Both deals made from the forum. Got lunch after that too! I think next time it's gonna be a BBQ joint!

We have a local Pawn shop that offers his store as a place for individuals to conduct transactions of this kind in a safe enviroment. No charge just a service he offers. He also will do transfers for $25 for up to 4 guns, that not each thats for all!

At the self serve carwash-at night-behind the stall with the burnt out light-alone. Bring two guns-one to sell one to keep-SIze the person up first-if he meets criteria-take his money and keep the gun.

Ok, thanks everyone. I'm quite surprised by your responses, but if it works for you, I suppose it'll work for me too. I'm wondering if I should just call my local police station and ask. I do belong to a gun club though. I probably just should go there.

"He gave me the money, I gave him the gun.
He put bullets in the gun.
I gave him the money."
Here in the People's Republik transactions have to go through a FFL.

In the state of Wisconsin, if that gun comes out of the case and is laid in, on, or leaned against a vehicle, it is a violation - not a good thing to do under surveillance at the local WalMart....so need to know your local laws as well.

That sounds as if it is familiar to you. Did he have you on retainer or was it court appointed?

The only Face to Face transaction I have made was at dusk in a TARGET parking lot. It seemed apropos! Really.
Everything went well, personal info and DL info were exchanged. Turned out he was actually a Criminal Defense Attorney, so I felt I was in good hands. I couldn't make this up!

I would not use a police station because you are breaking the law to walk in there with a gun, loaded or not.
A public lot such as WalMart, Mcdonalds and the like are fine but make sure it is done during daylight. As was advised, carry a friend.

Let's see, Tractor Supply (at least twice), Verizon, Northern Tools, Hooters, some upscale restaurant parking lot in The ATL, Macdonalds, Waffle house, my house several times, Kroger, Publix, a peach packing shed, and a bunch of different truck stop/filling station/convenience store parking lots. Never a problem.
Most recently I traded a revolver to CQB27 for a nice little Interarms Rossi 92 Winchester clone in .357 magnum. We were in the large truck-parking area of a local truck stop. Now we were not directly in front of the store, but we weren't trying to hide, either. We each admired our new gun, and I sighted the 92, high at a nearby transformer on a pole. I didn't want anyone to think I was aiming at them. I probably opened the action and held the gun up to catch the light and looked down the bore. We were between his car and my truck, but were in easy sight of the gas pumps, an intersection of two four-lane roads, and the store front. We shot the bull for probably 15 or 20 minutes. No SWAT team showed up. People in rural South Georgia don't get excited about somebody with a few guns.
I sold a gun to JCS&W in the exact same spot a month or two back. I can vouch for both these fellows, by the way, as good men to do business with. These transactions illustrate why I'm not reluctant to meet up with someone I've never seen, but who is a well known, regular poster and buyer/seller on either this forum or one of the local forums I find a lot of guns on. They are just not likely to be bad guys. More likely, they are upstanding citizens and knowledgable gun folks. Now I might be wary of somebody from craigslist.com.

I like the Kroger parking lot. Always plenty of people around and it's less than a mile from the house. Don

Craigslist transactions are more likely to turn out badly than a firearm transaction. I would NEVER go alone or unarmed to a Craigslist meet, especially for something small and pricey. And by not alone I mean two cars, not just two people in a single car.

I think we were probably closer to the old Cafe Erotica strip joint than we were to a Hooters.

I go to my local gun store parking lot.If we make the deal the ffl is right there. plus you don't stand out having a gun case in your hand. I have too much to lose selling a handgun to a stranger without protecting my
self. Literally and financially.

If you sell here, chances are high that your buyer will be in a different state. In that case, you will be shipping it to the buyer's FFL - end of problem.

Absolutely!!!!!!!!!!!
You find more wisdom in an early morning Waffle House than you ever find on a college campus.
