Leupold Customer Service
I have an early 90s vintage Leupold Vari-X-III 3.5-10x40 on my Ruger #1. When bore sighting it recently I noticed that the windage adjustment was a little sticky. Since this is a heavy recoiling rifle, (.375 H&H), I wanted to make sure that the scope was solid so I sent it in to Leupold for repair. They called last week and said that they are going to send me a new VX-3 to replace it. I called and asked why they were replacing it instead of repairing it and they said that since there had been more than 2 generations of this model, and that since this was an early model, they had chosen to replace instead of repair. This is excellent customer service. I am very happy since the new one is supposed to perform significantly better than the earlier model.

Leupold has repaired one of my VX-II and it is like brand new, they do have excellent customer service and are made in the good old U.S.A.
I own seven of their scopes (that was the only one I had a problem with), well worth the money. Good luck hunting with your .375H&H, that Ruger#1 is sweet.

If I may borrow the thread a moment, I have one of the older scopes myself. It is a Vari X III 3.5-10 and the power ring is very difficult to turn.
Should I send it back for repairs or is there any way to lubricate the dial?

Don't lubricate anything on a scope, period.
The power ring is supposed to be stiff. If it's unmoveable for some reason, send it to Leupold. As others have pointed out here, they are great to deal with.

I had a 3-9x40 Vari-XII with a similar problem. I sent it back to Leupold and they rebuilt it. It turns fine now. They also said that if you remove the screw on the power ring it will loose its nitrogen charge. I believe that all of the gold ring scopes are made in the USA. I have no idea if all of the parts are made here or not though.

I suspected as much. I'll bet that Burris is doing the same. It doesn't bother me as long as they don't let their quality slip.
