Lever action that is! I know we've had lever threads before, but I'd love to see them again. All makes and calibers appreciated! Here's my one and only (so far). A 1982 Win. 94/22 XTR Magnum. I love lever actions, and I fell in love with the wood on this one!

Here is a Puma in 45 Colt I used to own. Interesting carving on the butt stock.





I wasn't happy with it and sold it to buy a Winchester 1892 in 45 Colt.(what else?)

The only one I have. I'm pretty sure it was involved in the cattle/sheep wars in northern Wyoming and Montana at the turn of the last century.

I like the idea of lever guns, but for some reason don't have a bunch. I did buy a Marlin 1894 in .44 Magnum a couple of years ago because it was on sale at Big 5, but I haven't even shot it. Something tells me it may be a mismatch of chambering and platform.

I love the big late 19th century Winchesters like the 1895. I need to get one someday. If they're good enough for Teddy Roosevelt (and feralmerril), they're good enough for me.

In modern lever actions, I always liked the idea of a Winchester 88 in .358; given current prices on those, looks like everyone else thinks that's a cool combination too.

Hmm. I was looking for a photo of the Marlin and can't find one. Looks like I never even took a picture of it. I'll fix that tomorrow and edit this post to include it.

Now that is cool. Something about these rifles - old west I guess - that makes them so darn neat.

I love those 99's, wish I had bought the one's I came across a few years back, now you can't touch em for less than $7-800.

Never saw a 99 in .410 before, nice find! My two levers are a 1930's model 94 and an early 2000's Marlin guide gun. Nothing special to look at but I love them both!

Allen-frame...Do you know the story behind that Indian carving? I see the carvers signature, and it almost looks like the year "08"?

This one is probably the most interesting. Maybe it's not a real lever action, but.... It's an Ithaca 49, single shot, drop block, lever action. The magazine tube is fake. I wanted one of these when I was a kid, but my mother was scared of rifles. A shotgun was ok, but no rifles.

CajunBass...mundane or not, I still love 'em! I also like the pictures. Nice background. Do you use that 39a for squirrels? The first picture the bird feeder is full. Second picture it's tipped to the side and empty. Third picture it's full again. Given the evidence in those pictures, I'd bet you have a squirrel in the area with a long record of B&E's!

I don't use the 39A much anymore to tell you the truth. I don't like the tube magazine as much as I do a box magazine Since I can just walk out back and start hunting it's much easier to just keep a magazine loaded and ready to go with a different rifle. Still the Marlin is one of the last guns I'd get rid of. BTW. The sling is older than the rifle.

Yes, we have a lot of squirrels around here. A hard winter hit them a couple of years ago, and they all but vanished. This year they're back in good numbers. I can look out the kitchen window and watch them as I write this. I don't shoot many, but it's a good excuse to go sit on the side of the hill, with a rifle across my lap, and watch the creek where it joins the river there in the background.

The feeder is open to all.

This is the Marlin unicorn, model1894 32 magnum Cowboy. I got this one for my new grandson. It will take a little while for him to grow into it. After all he is only six months old Oh he has a Ruger Bisley in 32 mag to go with it..

I am a "Marlin Guy."

The first gun I ever bought. A used Marlin 1894 .357 Magnum at a gun show in 1986. I refinished the stock and forearm to a satin oil finish and removed the white spacer. My dad cut the barrel to 16 1/8" and backed up the front sight. I also installed a Williams receiver sight and a dovetail blank.



My custom Marlin 1894 .44 Magnum has a 16" barrel, custom John Wayne lever, saddle ring, refinished satin oil stock, leather butt pad cover, and engraving by Michael Gouse:









My Marlin 336 in .35 Remington is my Scout Carbine. 16" barrel, refinished satin oil stock, leather butt pad cover, and Leupold Scout Scope:



I used it to take a 215 pound red wild boar in Tennessee last year:

I also have a Marlin Model 36 in .30-30 and a Model 1895 in .45-70, but no photos on hand.

While I love my Marlins, I had a desire to give the Henry Goldenboy a try. I really like the company and the fact that they're proud to be built in the USA. When they came out with their .17 HMR version, that was the excuse I was looking for (I already had my Marlin 39M in .22 and I couldn't justify another .22 lever gun). The Henry's action is super smooth and the gun is amazingly accurate:



The .17 HMR goes through coins like a hot knife goes through butter!





While being a Marlin Guy, I do have one Winchester. A .44-40 Model 1873 half magazine tube version made in 1881:

I can post new pics but i have a marlin in 444 and in 35rem. I'm hoping to add a marlin m39 and a henry lever in 22cal someday too.

My grandfather had a old winchester 22 pump that i loved.
When the new grandson was born i got into the turn of the 22cal rifles for him. He has right now, a 1890 winchester pump, 1906 remington pump, savage m29b, a wards m29b(savage), a 1890 allen & hopkins 922 falling block 22, a stevens single shot 22, a remington rolling block 22, ect. Every so often i add another one to his collection. He is just turning 1yo next week. I want to get him a 22cal target rifle so he can compete in shooting matches when he is older. Bill

I'm still searching for a Marlin 1897 Cowboy. That would be .22cal straight stock with 24" octagonal barrel. Anybody have any leads on one?

I normally don't carry it during the winter but here is my go to bear gun. A stainless 45/70 guide gun tricked out by Wild West Guns in Anchorage. It is very comforting when those big brownies come sniffing around.

Here's a Rossi Model 92 in .357 I just picked up. I have been wanting a good Winchester 1892 clone in .357 caliber, I really wanted a Browning B-92 (made in the early 80's, a true copy of the 1892), but they are pricey and hard to find. I think only 3000 Browing B-92's were made in .357....

I have a Marlin .357 Cowboy Special that is nice, shoots good, but is almost too nice to take out in the field or canoeing. So, I finally decided to get a Rossi, easily available, cheap and everyone says they shoot good.

Picked this one up the other day, brand new for $469. The wood is definately utilitarian, I won't worry about dinging this one up:



Took it to the range this morning and ran some of my favorite cast lead handloads through it. The rifle shoots great, sights were regulated dead on from the factory, no sight adjustment needed. It likes .357 or .38 Special cases, cycles and shoots both equally accurately, better than my Marlin as it only shoots .357 ammo accurately. The rifle is very light weight, weighs about 5.5 pounds. I like it!

Here's a 50 yard group shot from the prone position, load is a Missouri Bullet Company 158 grain cast lead round nose flat point, 5.7 grains of Unique powder, for an advertised velocity of 1000 FPS from a revolver, should make 1350 FPS or so from the rifle. Group size is approximately 2 inches....



Now to find a Uberti 1873 rifle to keep my other Winchester clones (and actual Winchesters) company. To date I have the Rossi 1892, a real deal 1949 vintage Winchester Model 94, a Browning 1895 in 30/06 (one of the real copys made in the 80's), and a Winchester 9422. I can only afford the clones of the pricey Winchesters to shoot, but they are still fun...

What no working guns? Of the 4 pages of beauties I only saw 3 that has looks like they have ever been outside a gun safe. I guess I will have to have the wife photograph some real workings guns that belong to some friends and myself. Most have little bluing left, stock finish has vanished, these guns have history.

My only centerfire lever rifles.

OK GREGINTENN, I went back and recounted all the working guns in this thread and your are more correct than I. On page 1 there are 12 safe queens and 8 working guns, page 2 has 10 queens and 1 worker, page 3 is a little lopsided as it has 23 queens to 1 worker and lastly page 4 has 12 queens and no worker. grand total 57 queens opposed to 10 been there and done that guns.

Don't have photo of it, but I love my Marlin 336.

I wouldn't make that statement based on looks. I've owned quite a few rifles and shotguns that I've hunted with but to look at them you wouldn't know it. I've always enjoyed the cleaning and maintenance of them almost as much as the hunt. Just because a rifle looks like a safe queen in a photo, doesn't mean it is.

Here is a model 56 that has had a 10-22 heavy barrel screwed on to it.
It was bobbed, re-chambered and threaded.
It is a bit heavy but it is steady and shoots like a match rifle.
It is to the squirrels what drones were to Al Awlaki.

I have two. One is a Marlin GBL that I converted with the rail and sights into a blued version of the SBL.



This is a JM stamped, first run GBL - before the Marlington/Remlins.

My other, and my first, is a 1978 pre CBS 1894 44.



I redid the stocks with a sanding and several applications of linseed oil.
Love the thin stocks! Had to bend the carrier up a tad (.03") to fix the "Marlin jam" when using 44Spl. Probably why it was so inexpensive when I bought it used. Shoots like a laser with .431 cast!

I'm using the NOE 350 and 420 moulds for the 45/70 and I move each boolit at 1400fps and 1800fps for a choice depending on what I intend to do that day. Kind of like having specials and magnums - trapdoor and Marlin loads.

I should say first we hunt entirely different in the west and up north than these guns have hunted in the east. Many of ours here out west and up north are carried for many multiple miles over very rugged terain. I have recently started collecting photographs of old timers and professionals actual carry guns. I hope to soon post a photo of a lion guide with his well used S&W Model 19. The following photograph is of an actual working gun belonging to an "old timer" from Fairbanks, Alaska. He refused to have his picture taken with the gun and was actually reluctant to let me photograph the gun. He carried this for many, many years in his Alaska adventures.

Now, this one ain't really a lever - its a falling block designed to look like a lever. Ithaca 49 22LR

Model 1866 and 1873 Winchester. Both of these are Uberti, in 44/40.



Then a real Winchester 73, circa 1895, in 32/20.



Now we add my massive Marlin collection - an 1889 in 38/40 and a 39A in 22LR.



Now we come to the works of the World's Greatest Gun Designer.

First, the Model 1887 Lever Action Shotgun.



A couple of single Brownings. The 1886 45/70 and the Model 53 button-mag 32/20.



Then we go look at the greatest lightweight lever ever made (I'm not opinionated. I'm just right), the Winchester 1892. First two Winchesters, an octagonal barreled rifle with a Marbles tang rear sight, in 38/40 and a round barreled rifle in 32/20.



Then we have Rossi - a 357 with a receiver sight and a 45 Colt with a 16" barrel and a big loop lever. When I get to feelin' like the Duke I take this out and spin it. It's fun.



The 20" 44 magnum. Luckily for me, this one has an engraved receiver, so I can tell it from the others.



The last of the Rossi 92s are both 44/40. The blue one is the backup, while the stainless one is my go-to cowboy rifle. Ain't let me down yet.



After the 92, or course, comes the 94. The one with the receiver sight is a 20" 30/30. Then we have a 16" 30/30, and that blond one in the middle is a 20" 38/55.



And last, but most certainly not least, is the 1895. 1984 Brownng re-release in 30US, which is, in my opinion, the perfect caliber for this gun.
