Default Help / Harley-Davidson Collectors

I know there is a plethora of information amongst our Members
I ask you H-D Nut's to help me ID this cast iron treasure that I found. I deliberately have NOT removed the rust because I learned that that was the wrong thing to do on Antique's Roadshow!

It's cast iron and heavy........measures about 4.875" wide, 3.75" tall and about .250" wide.

Someone please tell me that it's an original paperweight from 1903

i duuno how old it is, but it might be used under the kick stand to prevent the bike from sinking into gravel of hot asphalt. I use a flattened beer can myself...

Kickstand pad is a good guess but I think it would get chewed up in short order. My guess is it's something that was to be affixed to a sissy bar or something like that back in the day. Something like this:

Of course, there are hundreds of things it could be. Likely not too valuable, I'd clean it up with some naval jelly to remove the rust, leave it in the grey and clear coat it. Maybe braze some tabs on the back and make it a cool belt buckle.

Maybe it was from a Harley shop? HD does give dealers a bronze plaque to put on the dealership exterior, but it is rather large. Maybe it was on a door or something?

I doubt very much that its for keeping a kick stand from digging into dirt or asphalt. I also doubt it was made as an insignia decoration for a bike being that it is heavy and made from iron. I believe its exactly what it appears to be - an iron casting of the H.D. shield, nothing more or less. I've been riding Harleys for close to 45 years now and have never seen anything like that before that was made of iron. Neat item - someone somewhere will give you a few bucks for it (I would!).
