Default Irene I lucked out

I was lucky I only lost power for a few seconds and my basement only got a little bit of water in it. Only a bunch of small branches came down in my yard but the tree's did O/K. Two of my friend's were not so lucky as the had to be evacuated do to there basement's flooding. Both had at least 3 feet of water in there yard's and full basement's . Both live boardering small river's.Many people still have no power.Another friend has a old Pepsi bottling plant that he store's and restore's old Crisscraft Mahogeny boat's from the frame up he is a true artist he ended up with over a foot of water in the plant.

My heart goes out to everyone who is now having to deal with the aftermath of Irene. My wife and I spent our first 4 years in New Orleans while I was in seminary. We went through several floods. It never got inside our house (very very close) but it got into our church. Heartbreaking to have to shovel filth out and then the cleaning, etc. that follows. Hope that when the water recedes your friend will not find a great deal of damage.

You sure did luck out. I watched a crane come in this morning to remove an oak tree that was about 6 ft in diameter and over 50 ft tall off from the roof of the home across the street. We have several homes in my neighborhood with trees down on them, most of them big old oak trees.

Glad to hear most of you all came through without too much damage. Everyone will pitch in to clean up and rebuild. Give us a shout if you need anything.

I lost quite a few trees here, had one take the power lines off the back of my guest cottage shop, another came down and took part of the porch roof of the cottage and some lines there. When that one came down it took two other trees with it and they are blocking my lower driveway. Even if I could cut them off (still have 7 stitches in the middle of my hand from surgery last week plus whatever nerve damage) my father is stuck in Pennsylvania all the roads there are blocked. So the trees are going to stay where they are for now, the power company will cut up whatever they need to, I already called the insurance company for the damage. Right now I have no idea about when the power will come back on, so I packed up the wife, the baby a couple of guns for safe keeping and all of my venison from the freezer and we are down at my mother's. There are trees down all over locally on this road some still in the same place. I have not seen a single utilty truck in 36 hours but I know they are busy.

Major localized flooding here in Vermont.

Bridges washed out, some homes lost, much tree damage, but very few lives lost...

We had a work party on Friday, before the storm hit, to clear out culverts and drainage areas...and it paid off!

No damage for me, but for many businesses and homes nearby...not so lucky

It is sad that people go throught hard times. I do notice that this storm seems to have more coverage than the tragedies in the mid west.

Just 3 miles away from me streets are filled with water up to stop signs. The Fed flood insurance should pay people for their property and move somewhere else, never to rebuild again. Turn it into park land. This applies to Central NJ, areas like Manville, Bound Brook etc. Every few years they get washed out and rebuilt.

Got power back last night at 9:30 (thanks SMECO!) have an oak tree on the roof, and at least one hole in the roof resulting from that tree, some wet sheet rock and insulation. But better off than one of the neighbors who has a new "skylight".

There are many in the area who have much greater damage and still have no power.

Waiting for the pros with some heavy equipment to get the tree off and further assess the damage.

Pray with us for no severe weather until we can get this mess cleaned up and stabilized.
