Anyone know what an NRA Endowment membership is?
I received an offer from the NRA to upgrade to an Endowment membership. Besides the Coleman duffel bag, and the offer to attend a DC convention, is there any advantage to this membership for me? Or is this just an attempt to mark me as a bigger donator?

We have a winner!
Yes, it is.
Is your offer "discounted?" It is much less than it used to be...I think only $200 to go up to that level, from life.
I don't know if you get any other special treatment at the convention other than a different colored badge.

as said above, and nothing 'wrong' with being a bigger donator, heavens knows they or any other gun rights groups can certainly use it....yes, we too have gone up the ranks, after all, I had saved a bundle for all the years we were a 'Life' member, and yes, they will continue to "try" and raise even MORE monies to keep YOUR gun rights fight going, as downtown (DC) certainly doesn;t give up trying to take YOUR gun rights away, and yes, when I have a few spare dollars I do give to the others, like the second Amendment Foundation..............
NRA is still the "best bang for the buck........." though

It means you will get more solicitation phone calls. I know many people that don't like the NRA. I too, have issues with some of their practices. That said, win, lose or draw there aren't many others that are doing much about your gun rights out there. I'm would be interested in someone showing me a group that is doing any more to protect our rights.

Where you "Win" is that you gave more money to the NRA who will continue to fight for your 2nd Amendment rights. Yes, they will send you plenty of solicitations, but you can discard those you do not feel inclined to answer. You can contact the NRA and request to receive No Solicitations, and they will honor it and not send you anything but your renewal notices and magazine.

In case you did not notice, I am a lifetime member. I already donate regularly, so I am asking why I would want to upgrade my membership.

I am an Endowment Member because I believe in the cause. I don't need any other reasons.
I plan to go up to Benefactor in the future.

I've been an NRA member since the 60's and a life member since the 70's. I'd gotten away from the shooting sports due to work load and other priorities. About ten years ago, I got back into the game. I had not contributed to the NRA efforts through the years. So, when I was offered an upgrade of my membership to Endowment, for a reduced rate, I signed up. As a bonus, they sent along a jacket. I did get a red ribbon to wear on my name badge at the convention. Bottom line, I believe in their cause, so I mailed off a check.

I got a phone call from the NRA last night. Basically it went like this, as an Benefactor Member, your support gas been in the top 1% of all NRA members. You have been nominated for an award. It was the Golden Eagles Club, she patted me on the back, blew smoke up my skirt and told me I would get a few chotskies, certificate, pin, shooters cap etc. Then she told me the dues would be $200 each year. I have no problem making donations. Heck I support any semi-worthy cause that knocks on the door. I do however resent being, for lack of a better description, given an award that costs me $200/year to accept. They would have much more success with me just calling it what it is. She asked me if she could tell Wayne LaPierre yes on my behalf in accepting the nomination. I said no this time.
By the way, I got a nice leather jacket each time I upgraded my membership. They have different colored patches but otherwise look the same. Life membership patch is blue, Endowment patch is red, Patron is green and Benefactor patch is white. My life jacket has to be about 20 years old at this point and basically looks new. The jackets have been very nice and I wear one or the other on most cold days. Somewhere along the line they gave me a pretty nice Bowie knife on a plaque too.

I think I paid $300 to upgrade about 15 years ago. And nobody bothers me, ever, from the NRA. Joe

Got my Life around 1958 or so. Paid $12.50 every 3 months til the $100 was paid. Was Life until a few years ago, then went Endowment. Don't begrudge the NRA wanting a few bucks every once in a while. As was mentioned above, it's the only game in town. P.S. In 1958 I was grossing 100 bucks a week. Take home was much less as I was a single man.

NRA is worth every penny!
The NRA is the biggest reason why guns are available to law abiding American citizens today! Without the NRA supporting our Second Amendment rights, America would be like the other countries of the world. Defenseless! Don't get cheap and wonder what extra privileges YOU have and enjoy that will likely be lost by failing to support the NRA! Make your decision based on the rights you will lose if the NRA loses funding! By supporting the NRA YOU get the right as a law abiding citizen to keep and bear arms! The NRA is a huge reason why the people of the United States are allowed to defend themselves against enemies both foreign and domestic!

I upgraded to Life last summer. Soon after I received a phone call and a few E-mails from them. I wrote an E-mail asking that they please stop all the solicitation calls, E-mails, etc. I also included my wife's membership number. We have not received one phone call or E-mails since. All you have to do is ask them to stop and they will honor your request.

I became a Life Member the day after I turned 21 years of age in 1960. I was still in college and money was tight. Like others, I had started the installment plan earlier and paid the last $12.50 installment that day. Since then I have upgraded each time the NRA sent me a solicitation for the next upgrade. I have never attended a convention and most likely never will. I have given away the 'gifts' that I have received right along. My sole purpose is to support the efforts of the NRA in keeping as much of the 2nd Amendment intact as possible. I also donate more when the NRA has a 'special' effort going here in Nevada. I don't agree with all the token 'gifts' back to us when I donate and usually just refuse them. IMHO, the NRA's effort in combating the gun grabbers has been the deciding factor in maintaining the tenuous position we gun owners are in right now.....

I have been an NRA member since the late '60s, and I became a Life member in the '90s. Both of my children are Life Members. As I could afford it, I upgraded to an Endowment Life, Patron Life, then Benefactor Life. As a predominantly high power competitor, and sometimes pistol competitor, it is beneficial to be an NRA member. I never upgraded because of gifts, but because I believe in the cause. Since I became a Life Member, I have never received a solicitation for upgrades or donations. The only perc that I really like, is that when I have to deal with the folks at NRA headquarters, mentioning that you are whatever level of Life member seems to open more doors faster to get to a solution.

This is one case where I'll let the thread revival slide, as it is for a cause I greatly endorse.

Thank God for the NRA. Without it, you would not be a handgun owner in many places in the US! However, with any large organization, there are things and procedures that I don't alway agree are for my best interests. The Cincinnati Reforms took back the NRA from some nasty cliques and we have to be diligent that we are not reverting to some things we got rid of in Cincinnati. There are some proposed by law changes coming up that remove members ability to make decisions by majority rule of the members, instead of an appointed committee. Ed.

You can tell as much about people (and organizations) by looking at who their enemies are as you can by looking at who their friends are.
Watch the reaction of the anti second amendment advocates and politicians when the NRA is mentioned.
They get positively livid and start foaming at the mouth. To those who oppose 2nd amendment freedoms, the NRA is public enemy #1.
That alone tells me that the NRA is worthy of my support.
I've been a member for over 30 years, and just signed my 17 year old up as a member as well.

I upgraded every election. Once I got to Benefactor I got my grandson a Life time membership. He is now an Endowment member. And at the ripe old age of five he is proud to wear his pin to school every day.

Andy Griffith, Post #2
During the Clinton administration, I was offered to up my membership to LIFE for $500.00 which I accepted. Also, I donated $200 to the NRA-ILA which became my undoing. I was relentlessly hounded by US Mail, E-Mail, and yes, telephone for several years afterward, the purpose, to donate MORE money. Thankfully, years later, it has subsided.
Should I decide to take the endowment option with the NRA will I be putting myself back on the sucker list for more solicitations and donations ?

If you call the NRA and ask that all communications stop you will not hear an other word from them.
They understand than many will support them when we can, if we can.
The NRA is not a one generational thing. They do not want to piss off someone and lose future generations.

All of these positive replies gave me the inspiration to upgrade to Endowment membership today. It was easy. All I had to do is enter my credit card number and my wife will pay the bill when it hits the account.
Easy Peasy

This is right from their website:
Q: How can I reduce the amount of mail I receive from the NRA?
A: Simply email us at [email protected] or dial 800-NRA-3888 and request to be placed on the "Do Not Promote" list. This will significantly reduce the amount of mail you receive without affecting important mailings, magazine service, or your membership renewal.

I have been a Patron for a few years, will up grade to benefactor some day.
I never get calls from th NRA. Do get an occasional mailing. Never open those, as I give when I can and that's it.
Like others have said, without the NRA, our gun rights would be a small fraction of what they are today.
Join, and give!

I became a Life Member back in the 1980's and now am a Benefactor Member. I've been to a couple annual meetings and being an advanced member I was eligible to attend a function that was reserved for upper level members. I always refused the gifts because I would rather have the cost of the gifts dedicated to the core NRA functions.
My dad bought his Life Membership in the 1950's. When NRA was having the campaign to pay off the current headquarters he sent in a contribution. Pop said he sent it because he felt guilty for living so long. <rimshot>

Just one time I'd like to get communication from the NRA on various subjects where they aren't also begging for money.

I get zero phone calls from them and very few snail mailings. I do however get maybe one or two emails a week on average, but those are usually either for sales on items at their website, or news briefs which are usually very informative.
I used to get solicitations from them to join the NRA, which was funny because I've been a life member since the 70's, but since I upgraded my status, they apparently fixed the flaw in their mailing system and those mailings have stopped.
