Default A little footed cast iron Kettle.

I picked this up about 3 years ago. It was sporting gold spray paint when found. I believe I paid Three dollars for it.

This week I started the restoration of the piece. Lots of hand. work is involved. I anticipate 60 hrs time, before it is done. Perhaps more.

60 hrs??????
What's wrong with dropping it off at the nearest shop with a $20 and let them sand blast it the next time they fire up the blasting pit. After that it's just a matter of seasoning.

Or am I missing something?

There is a method to clean cast iron using a battery charger. It is called "Electrolysis". It is simple and will not take 60 hours to clean. Go here and check out the section on cleaning and restoration--------www.griswoldandwagner.com-------------it will look as good as new.

The little guy is a pre Rev War form and I have no doubt it is from the middle part of the 1700's. I will be going most of the work with various wire brushes. Here it is after a couple of hours...outside nearly done.

Go buy cheap vinegar in gallon jugs.
Get a 5 gallon bucket.
You'll be amazed.

Thanks for putting it beside the drink can to give an idea of the size. I'm not quite that old but I would think that it would be used for one person like in a camping kit. Larry
