Default Gun sales

As a lot of you know Wisconsin will have concealed carry soon, after my hospital stay I went out to Shooter's and loitered around shooting the bull. One of th einstructors told me that they have a lot of people signed up. But he did mention a lot of new shooters are buying compact and sub compact guns.

I have another posting about single actions in another area, no one yet knows the rules or requirements for the CCW license. I know that for smaller guns you need a lot more practice.

I shoot quite often and i shoot a variety of different guns like my PPK or J frame or my 1911s. Mostly i shoot a model 15 or 19.

I try to stay accurate with a 642 or 442, so no matter what
else I take along, I don't get rusty. I don't have specific courses
of fire, but I manage to do right, left, and both hands.
After reading discussions here, I make it a point to keep
in practice. TACC1

Did Shooters have any 3rd gen Smiths? I haven't been down there in years.

No 3rd Gen Smiths, believe me I have been looking, one used 500 S&W but mostly Glocks, H&K, and XD. They started carrying Taurus autos too. A lot of different versions of the 1911. They also have some new J frames and a lot of Ruger autos and revolvers. Plus a bunch of AR's and deer type rifles .

I have to stop there on my way from work today to pick up a holster. I usually go once or twice a week and Stephanie calls me if they get any new S&W revolvers in the used counter.

They seem to be selling quite a few LCPS, LC9 and LCRs for CCW, they do have a few of the KAHR polymer/stainless small autos too.

Bummer. I just hit a couple of the local ones up here and 1 just has some 4006's and 4586's , not compacts, the other had none.

There is a show next weekend in Waukesha, but traditionally I haven't seen many 3rd gen autos. I always look for the 4006 with adjustable sights, that or the 5906 with adj. sights.

I am stopping there today, my holster finally came in. I wouldn't mind a nice 3913 either.

That's the problem...

You'll find that a little gun will be much more easily concealed than say, a full sized 1911, or a 4" revolver of any sort.

The problem is, the snubbies and the mouse sized semi-autos are more difficult to shoot- of course many people can and do shoot them very well, but the fact is these little guns are not very forgiving at all in the accuracy department and require much more time for familiarization and proficiency.

However, it is much better to go with a small one that can be carried 100% of the time, than a larger piece that is carried rarely. It will never do you any good if you don't have it when you need it, no matter how good or easy it is to shoot. A Baby Browning in the pocket is a lot better than the 1911 left at home!

When you decide on the one to carry- shoot the hound out of it and become proficient with it and know its limitations.

The little 738's and 709's from Taurus are nice pieces, but those and other pieces in that size- including J-framed revolvers can be a challenge to carry if you simply wear a T-shirt and shorts- and don't stay standing up all the time. However, by modifying your wardrobe by say, wearing a suit jacket or vest, then a full sized 1911 can be carried.

No matter what, it will take getting used to- I liken it to the experience I had when I first got married- the ring aggravated me for quite a while- when I worked on equipment and such...but now I never notice it, and haven't for years! Finding the correct handgun and carry method that fits your lifestyle and wardrobe may take some trial and error until the perfectly comfortable combination is found. Just give it time and patience.

First rule in a gun fight: Have a gun.

I think it is great your state is finally allowing you to exercise your rights of self protection. Shame on those states that don't.

A lot of folks start their CCW routine with a medium or large frame handgun and work their way down to a small frame after they have become accustomed to going heeled. Many people drop a small revolver and a speed strip in their trouser pocket before they head out the door and are well armed. A J frame revolver or small semi- auto, with a reload, should get (and keep) you out of trouble. I try to run 15-20 rounds through my S&W 642 each time I go to the range. I carry a variety of handguns, depending on my needs and conditions and I know where each one will shoot.
