Just gotta find the right woman.
One day my wife asked me, "Are any of these guns loaded?"
Figuring I thwarted her I replied, "Nope they're all unloaded with the ammo in another room."
She replied, "Then what good are they if none of them are loaded?"
Yup, got me a good one.

Wow, dead thread reborn.

I started reading without looking at the dates of the posts at first. Then I saw Sipowitz, BarbC, and Joni Lynn - it was like old home week.

I don't and never have demand anything from my wife of over 45 years and she doesn't me .. everything is mutually agreed up on .. she knew I had weapons before we were married and didn't expect me to get rid of them just because she was now in my life !!
when conceal carry was approved in Illinois I told her I was thinking of acquiring mine .. after a few months and several home invasions in the area she asked if I was still thinking about it to stop thinking and do it .. she isn't interested in getting hers but wants to feel protected .. several times she has asked if I was armed when we are out not to badger me but to feel secure in the knowledge that I'm armed ..

...when I got married I owned one gun...a Remington Wing Master 12 gauge...my dear farm girl wife says "don't you think we need a few more?"...it was "Katy Bar the Door"...we got more alright...lots more...and we had them all...until the safe fell out of the canoe while I was doing a GPS search for the Titanic...

When I was fixing to get married again I found out my intended hag a gun. Ok cool, let's see it.
Sterling .22. Deal breaker, until I found out it was a gift from her Grandfather when she headed off to college.
Yeah, me and him had words.

My wife was given some advise by her mother ," DO not ever think about changing a person after you marry them" you accept them for what they are if you love them . If not move on ,Our relation ship lasted 55 years +. She passed on the same advise to our 3 daughters ,@ took her advise and are still married, 1 did not and has paid dearly for it.It does work both ways though.

I would never throw away my life to be with somebody who'd rather see one or both of us slaughtered rather than defend ourselves with a firearm.

I would no more marry such a woman than I'd marry one with "88" tattooed on her forehead.

i guess i know a few pro gun people. i don't know any antis.
most everyone i know is neutral about guns, including liberals.
i know hunters, but they don't seem pro gun either. to them a gun is a tool.

Years ago when things went really bad with my son's mother, she demanded that I sell my "ridiculous Ferrari", which I owned several years before I met her, and give her half the money. I remember my reply as if it was yesterday. "I'll sell the car for a dollar, and give you 50 cents. That twice what you're worth, you two bit (lady of the evening)". If anyone doesn't know the exact word I used, I'll give you a hint. It rhymes with door.

Wives can be a problem. I recently bought a Ruger LCP. When I brought it home my wife insisted that I buy her one too.

Yes, it's all about control. Relationship ? Sounds more like a servant/master or serf/lord relationship. Speaking from the vantage point of a more or less confirmed single, I have seen too many guys (and gals) find they were nothing but an ATM and a bank account, a maidservant and a plow horse. I saw a letter in Dear Abby, a man who said he'd always been the provider, paid his kids way through college-no student debt-paid for everything else, now his wife was quacking because he wanted to buy a car and it's "our"
money.
Plenty of fish in the sea.

Someone told me that a woman marries a man hoping he'll change and a man marries a woman hoping she won't.

My wife and I have had a role reversal in our marriage. When we first got married back in the early '70s, she demanded a gun because her ex kept her old one, and as a native Texan she didn't feel right without a gun. So we bought a Ruger Standard. I never got to shoot it, because we lived in the only place in Texas that did not have a convenient public range, and I was pretty much neutral about guns. She, however, had access to the police range, and learned to shoot it there.

Fast forward 40 years, I've retired and have lots of spare time, and a very good public range has opened nearby. I get out the old Ruger, take it to the range, fire my first shots, and become an instant gun enthusiast and range junkie. Since then, I've become a member at the range, received my Texas license to carry, acquired half a dozen new pistols, and fired them at a rate of 1000 rounds a month. My wife, however, has completely lost interest in firearms, and will no longer step on the range. But she is still a Texan at heart. When we leave the house, she'll look at me accusingly and ask, "Are you carrying?" I'll say "Yes", and she'll smile.

Some say that men are like dogs and women are like cats. Dogs have masters and cats have staff. However, it's only that way if you let it be.

Reminds me of that comment floating around the web:

Women often say that men are dogs, but they forget that dogs are loyal to death if you treat them right.

We used to go to the range at least every other weekend. When his relationship got serious she decided they needed to get married and found a bigger place. Then she found out about his gun… Sadly he had no idea how anti gun she was as it had just never come up before. He went around trying to sell it but we all know how great a deal most gun shops will offer you and even worse for the Taurus phobia. So I bought it from him and years later it’s still a great gun. I can only be thankful that my female half wasn’t as anti as his was. Mine has even grown to enjoy them enough that she owns a revolver and a shotgun now. Anyone else want to share a horror story or a tale of romance that a moment of wisdom saved them from???
Sounds to me like she never "really" loved him in the first place. Im lucky that all the more recent girlfriends I have-are somewhat and pro gun. Sabrina is a natural gunner like out mutual friend Caitlin. Anyway, I was listening to the radio yesterday-I think was Rush Limbaugh's week-in-review? and the host made mentioning of hearing of several women divorcing their hubbys due to them voting for Trump. Again-more cases of stupidity and not true love.

On Tues-it's my Sister and BiLs wedding anniversary. They have been married since 1977-Valentines Day. They never had any issue about him having a gun collection with my sister never having any interest in them-till about 20 years ago. From paying attention to their marriage-which works like a well-oiled machine-=ive seen how they each put 100--not 50%, not 80% but 100% into their wedding. Not bragging but, if im ever given a chance at a successful union like they have? id look on them as a good example of what to do.

I always looked at a new girlfriend as an opportunity to buy a new gun...for her of course. Buy her a gun and see how she takes it. If she hates it, you get a gun, and maybe the girl, and maybe not. Any which way it works out. You can even recycle the guns that stay with you with a new girl.

My now wife of 35 years has a no-dash Model 63. Tyler t-grip and some vintage stag grips. It was the first thing I bought her, way before we were engaged. She went with me a few times and lost interest. Now about the only time she wants to shoot is if her friends want too. But the exposure was good so she understood what I did, and why I did it.

Well, I was just gonna read and not get involved, but.....
Some 52 plus years ago I married the prettiest, nicest little girl/woman in the world. She weighed about 85 lbs. soaking wet, she was 18 and I was 21. Owning guns never came up in our marriage plans, I guess she knew I had a couple and that I liked to hunt and fish. As the years passed by I hunted and fished as much as I wanted to, which was a lot. Took her dove hunting and she killed more than a lot of the guys that went. Bought her a Colt Detective Special and a Ruger 44 magnum rifle that she still fiercely claims today. She is still my Best Friend and Sweetheart. We still go shooting and fishing together. Of course we have had our disagreements over the years, but less and less as we are older, (some will say old) now. I love her dearly, and she loves me, and as we said many years ago, "till death do us part." I thank God every day for my good wife.

Have a blessed day,

Leon

Marrying someone and think you'll "change" them is like buying an old run down car and thinking you'll "change" it into something better. Who here has converted a K-22 into an M-29 ?
Makes me think of an incident from my Civil War reenacting days. The wife of one reenactor was always quacking he was "spending too much" and "taking too much time"-he always took his stepson, her son, the kid had the time of his life, had a father, enjoyed the camaraderie, etc. He succumbed to cancer-the service was a sea of blue. I don't think anyone went up to her to offer condolences.

Yup, got me a good one.
Years ago while loafing with and OLD gunsmith in Kansas he mentioned that the shotgun over the door was ALWAYS loaded.

Too many people are killed by UNLOADED guns.

Andrew Zimmer--the guy who eats gross stuff on one of the cable stations--did an hour episode on the types--how prepared etc--kinds of food that the average Johnny Reb would eat IF they had anything to eat? Some actually sounded good. For instance--Coffee could be made by slicing a sweet potato into chips-frying them, then grinding it in a coffee grinder-and wallah--Coffee. It supposedly tasted good.

They also showed how to make (and try to eat) Hardtack ( Crackers)

Firearms are protected in the Constitution. Marriage is not.

He also has my house, my furniture, my safe, my dog, my friends. Oh, and I had to quit the job I love because I couldn't afford to live where I worked on the income I was making part-time. I have balked and the proceedings are stalled at this point.

So I left and went to do some work in a far away place to stay busy, make a difference, and be completely out of my element so I don't get depressed.

And that's where we stand.

And it's a shame.
You need a better lawyer.

If any woman tries to make you choose between her and anything except
another woman, run away as fast as you can. This is advice from a man whose has been married for 39 years. Like a motorcycle you need two wheels, love and respect.

A very good friend years ago told me there are 3 big things to have in life and rarely does anyone get to have all 3.

I remember he said they were 1) financial success, 2) job satisfaction, 3) oh heck... what was #3 again?

Years and years ago, when I was a young man, I had a friend, an engineer, who was building a “HomeBuilt” airplane. These were real airplanes built out of a kit. You added the engine, but pretty much everything else was in the kit. Anyway, my friend had airplane parts and such all over his house - his young wife didn’t like that one bit. It was understandable because she was living in an “aircraft hanger” for all practical purposes. Well, one day she told him it was either the airplane or her. He told me he had to think about that for a bit. She came home from work the following day to find he had taken the chainsaw and cut a doorway from the living room into the garage so he could move the wings into the house.
They divorced soon afterward.
It was a nice little airplane btw.

EDIT: Sorry - Just noticed this was an old thread -

If i heard her say its me or the Taurus 605. Without having to think about it, I would pick the Taurus, and I hate everything Taurus.

The woman that picked me would tell me to buy a Smith & Wesson, or at least a Charter Arms.

Had a buddy that shot with us on weekends mostly high Power matches. He bought a fully loaded M1A with all the bells and whistles. Every saturday there he was banging away with the rest of us. Then for a few weeks we didn't see him at all. Turns out the missus to be gave him a choice. The guns or me. About a few weeks later his fully loaded M1A was for sale in a local gun shop. Heck my wife knew about the guns way before we even got married. Told her up front and we've been married for 35 Years. Frank

If you live with someone that thinks compromise is you giving that person their way not just once but every time you are in trouble.

It lives yet again.

My dog has never given me an ultimatum. Neither has a woman who has been around long.

Heck, if I had a new man in my life I'd want to play show and tell with guns, he'd better have some good ones cuz he isn't getting mine!
It can be a 2-way street.

Yes I realize this is a zombie thread.

Married 50 years, she has her own guns and safe to put them in. Has bought me quite a few guns over the years, Christmas, birthday.

Used to go out target shooting with me long before we were married. Hey could have done worse!
