Default S&W 22lr help

Hello all,

I am starting to build a collection of 22 pistols and revolvers and need your assistance. I have a 17-4 so I am familiar with that model. What are the other models S&W offers or has manufactured in the past?

Thanks,
pineappleshooter

Model 17, 18, 22/22A (auto), 34, 35, 41 (auto), 43, 45, 46 (auto), 51, 61 (auto), 63, 617,617 +, 651, Outdoorsman .22 (prewar), 422 (auto), .22 Kit Gun Target (prewar), Ladysmith .22 (prewar), and there are probably a few I missed. Also a line of Single Shots.
Some are blue steel with a Stainless equivalent, some are blue steel only, some are aluminum (airweight) frames.
And if you want to go waaaay back don't forget the #1, #1 1/2 et al
from the Civil War (aka War of Northern Aggression) Days.
So, if you want one of each you have your work cut out for you.
Have fun.

Thom Braxton did a pretty comprehensive job.
Before the war there were actually two I frame models: the 22/32 Kit Gun w/4" barrel and the 22/32 Heavy Frame Target w/ 6" barrel.

.22s were built on three revolver frame sizes: K frame, I/J frames and the Ladysmith was built on the dimunitive M frame.

... and of course, don't forget the King Of The Hill, the venerable K-22 (pre-17).

Pineapple-if you want to stay with .22lr there is the model 17 and pre 17 that is the K-frame it came originally in a 6" barrel length and later added the 8 3/8". In the 1990's they also made a 4" model 17. The 17-6 is available with the full lug barrel. These are all blued guns. There is also the 617 which is stainless.

There are several variations on the J frame both blued and stainless.

Then there are the .22wmr guns both J and K frame, the model 53 jet, the very rare model 45 fixed site K-frame, pre war outdoorsman.

You better buy the SCSW and then set up a game plan for what you want to own.

Building a .22 collection with Smiths? Let's see....a model 63, a K22 4 screw, a 617 -4, a 317, a 317-1. Let's throw in 45/22, a MkIII .22 (both ruger models) and for giggles a NAA .22 mini. After that, you're on your own

Figured as much, just wanted to give you a hard time. Those are great suggestions for someone wants to add a solid 22 to their collection.

ALL .22's are fun shooters; I have had some problems with the newer versions, such as the 617s - don't want to let go of the empties after only couple dozen rounds - not so with the older M17s, and especially not with older K22s, 1947-48.
