What Kind Of Parakeet Is This?
My wife has a birdbath in our yard and ever since this new Parakeet (we have named him Tweety) started hanging around on our roof, the other birds have stopped using the birdbath. Does anyone know what type of Parakeet Tweety is?

I believe Tweety is a Prairie Falcon. Tweety can be a bit rough on the other Parakeets
They are fantastic birds!

Is this a trick question?
Might the Parakeet be inside the Falcon

Last year I occasionally had a Cooper's hawk perch in the tree above the bird feeder. It would swoop down and snatch a small bird off the feeder. It was interesting to watch. The one in my pic is an adult, the one in your pic is an immature Cooper.

Your the proud owner of a Red-Tailed Hawk. Fantastic bird and will definitely keep the bird bath empty. They use them here to help control the pigeon population and they have also been known to snatch kittens and small dogs. We have lots of them here. Yours is a big boy too!!

I didn't notice you were in South Florida so it's probably not a red-tailed, but an Osprey. It has some unique markings, but a magnificent bird no matter!

Florida Hawks
Sharp-shinned Hawk - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Sharp Sinned gets my vote. Don't plan on doing any dove or pigeon hunting with that one around. He'll beat you every time.

I believe it is a Sharp-shinned Hawk. It is a juvenile. Sharp-shinneds are well known to hunt around bird feeders. They are a regular here at mine every winter. It's skinny legs and smaller head distinguish it from a juvenile Cooper's. The pale stripe above the eye is a dead giveaway.

Concur. That's what I thought the first moment I saw the picture. The sharp-shinned hawk is a thin and almost gangly bird compared to the bulkier Cooper's, Red-shouldered, and red-tailed hawks even in their juvenile phases. I can't speak to the prairie falcon, because I'm a long way from a prairie and have never seen one, but I think the yellow legs are diagnostic for the sharp-shinned hawk.

I say, I say BOY!.............I'm Chicken Hawk!
Actually, Sharp Shinned have no feather on their legs at all. Red Tailed have no brown feathers on the upper chest and the head is completely wrong for an Osprey.
I live in the county where I see Coopers and Red Tailed Hawks almost daily. That bird is a Coopers Hawk.

The Sharp-shinned & Coopers are extremely similar.
However, a juvenile Sharp-shinned normally does not have the yellow eyes. And I do believe that this bird is a juvenile.
From the photo, I can't get a clear idea of size, but if the fascia on the house is 6" then that is a VERY LARGE Sharp-shinned.
From what I see in our Audobon Field Guide, my vote would be for a juvenile Coopers Hawk.
Magnificant bird, regardless!

Here is another picture of Tweety that might help in his (her?) identification. Thanks for all of your input. Based upon what I learned from your posts, I returned the bag of parakeet food and the book about how to train your parakeet to my local pet store.

That is not a red tail and not a sharp shinned. The direction of the brown chest coloration on the sharp shinned is left to right, on the Cooper, the direction is top to bottom. The OP's bird and the one in gunlovingirl's photo are the same.
