I dunno, but if it hits a populated area,someone is going to feel it.

A few years ago, I watched a green "comet" trail that was huge! I was very concerned about what this might be, and no one I called knew. A day or so later, the news announced that it had been visible over at least a four-state area, and was debris from a Soviet space project that had burned up in the atmophere.

I haven't so far seen such a trail from this item, so maybe it isn't as large. But I heard it's as big as a truck trailer. If any of it hits, people there will know about it. But it won't leave a hole as big as the one at Tunguska, in Siberia. And it won't kick us back to the age of the dinosaurs, which an asteroid hit probably ended.

Maybe we'll get lucky and it'll hit a Taliban HQ or a Somali pirate hangout...

I hope it hits the house next door! Guess I need to get the gas can out and the flares. If any of it hits near here, I can tell them I heard and felt a big thump, then the wreckage of a house went up in flames. That after they discover it and try to put it out.

Come to think of it, if any pieces fall around here, I can think of a half dozen dumps that might catch fire and burn. No one would care.

I heard that the odds of a person being hit 1 in 3000. When you think about it those are pretty short odds. It must be about 1 in a million for being eaten by a shark or hit by lightening. If the largest piece, 350 lbs., hits you they'll just have to fill in the hole and put up a tombstone.

Someone stole my tars off the thing whilst I was at a stop light. Had to leave it right there. Them stick houses do have their advantages sometimes.

If you deliberately deorbit a satellite you can control where it will happen and its attitude so that it comes down in a controlled manner with minimal debris spread. This satellite was due for recovery by NASA but the mission was scrubbed after the Columbia disaster. As it was supposed to be recovered, it probably did not have any/sufficient fuel/thrust for a controlled deorbit burn. Eventually, it ran out of power and began to tumble.

A tumbling satellite reentry is about as predictable as where a skipping stone will splashdown once it has gone unstable. Also, a tumbling object breaks up in a very unpredictable manner, so the spread of the bits is larger.

The space surveillance radars around the US face out towards our enemies. If the satellite reentry occurred close to or within North America, it is unlikely that it was being tracked as the angle of dangle is all wrong.

I'm just camping out or whatever...
