Default anybody own an electric meat grinder?

Hi! I'm giving up my old crank grinder and going for an electric type. What brand do you have, and how bad does it clog up, when using it. Please tell me your observations on your grinders. Thanks for your help. Mikey

I have a Cabelas branded grinder, use it for Venison and making all kinds of sausage. As long as you do a good job trimming the silver skin/sinuey it doesn't clog up at all.

If your wife/significant other doesn't have a nice mixer consider getting her a Kitchen Aid table top mixer for her B-day , X-mas or whatever. They run around $2-300. There are two models, the less expensive one pivots back while the heavy duty model has a crank that raises the mixer up out of the mixer bowel. Then for an extra $50 or so, you can get yourself the meat grinder attachment.
I've been using mine...oops, I mean hers... to grind up the local whitetail population for the past ten years or so and haven't had a problem. There are also various other special attachments available, such as sausage making tubes, pasta makers, coffee grinders and etc.

The real beauty of it is that my faithful wife has been tickled pink with me buying her a high quality kitchen appliance that just "happens" to be useful for my venison processing . And it is one that has also churned out countless cakes, pies, and other delectable pastries during the off season.
Sometimes I feel bad about my kitchen subterfuge, but not often. Now, if I can only figure out a way to use a chronograph to time eggs I could get her one of those too...

I would, but she has her heart set on a new mop for her birthday and more vacuum cleaner bags for Christmas.

I have a Berkel. We rarely have it clog, clean it after every use. We run it seven days a week, maybe 100 #'s a day.

Oh yeah, I own a couple of restaurants. Guess I should say that!

We have a Pro Kitchen Aid mixer that has all the attachments So yes it has a meat grinder but do not think it is meant for large production like a Deer or whatever.

Well I guess it will after reading Timetripper's post

I like to grind my meat by hand. You get a better feel for it and it comes out much better. Sometimes my wife grinds it but most of the time I do it because I know how to do it better than she does.
I never thought of an electricial one before. Maybe for our anniversery.

Well Rule3, to be honest, if I was doing a lot of grinding, I would probably go with at least something like Cabela's higher end grinders. But I'm doing the trimmings from only a deer or two each fall and for that the Kitchen aid setup works fine. Probably about 50-60 lbs max.
Over the years I've hand cranked tons of "gooseburger", as dad used to call it. It was never fun.

About 15 or so years ago my mother in law gave my wife a Kenmore mixer. It is pink and white and big and looks to be from the 60's. it has a meat grinding attachment with it and it works well. The mixer has a beautiful gear whine much like my old International Scout in 4 low. It has different little grinding plates for texture and has ground up a lot of deer. Lots of power and the price was right!

I'm not going to touch this one with a ten foot meat grinder.

Huh. I thought Caj was making a serious post for once. I'm still not positive. I am sure, though, that there are many here who know more about meat grinding than I.

He's a Lawyer! Must be pretty good. Go back over the "transcript" and read how well his words were chosen.

Default meat grinders

Hi! Thanks to everyone for their thoughts on electric meat grinders. The sausage maker, website; was pretty good, with several to look at. I;m looking at the ones in the 125-150 dollar range. I only use it for making jerky. As for the hand grinding meat posts, we will just say, good night and may god bless!!! Thanks again for all the replies. Mikey
